Last sunday, the island of Marken.
Two crows at sunset : one in full flight and the other sitting on the roof next...

Marken : a typical Dutch fishing village that has become a small tourist mecca in the last 15 years...
20 km. north of Amsterdam, easily accessible by bike, car or bus (# 111 from Central Station) in just about 40 minutes. Located in the former Zuiderzee (Southern Sea, now renamed IJsselmeer, or Lake IJssel)) is since 1957 connected to the mainland by a causeway which runs on a dike.
The village dates back to the early Middle Age.
It was first reported in the historical records in the 13th century as the site of a Frisian monastery, became an island during the great flood of 1164, and part of Amsterdam municipality in the 14th century.
Raiding parties from other Zuiderzee towns sacked the island numerous times during the Middle Ages, when they fought with Amsterdam over supremacy of trade. In the 17th century, the island gained prominence as a commercial port and it became independent in the beginning of the 19th century. Xavier Mellery’s paintings in the late 19th century helped to popularize it. Mellery (a Belgian Symbolist painter, 1845-1921) was introduced to the island in 1878 by writer Charles De Coster, who needed illustrations for his article on The Netherlands in the magazine Tour du Monde.
In a way Marken was to Mellery what Brittany became to Gauguin : a sort of lost paradise.
Tides and floods periodically ravaging the island (the last one in 1916) have sizeably diminished its size, reducing it from a municipality with 17 communities into one of 8 "centers".
If you plan to visit, make sure to get here real early in the morning or by late afternoon (specially during weekends) to avoid The Obnoxious Crowds...

Fulvio, another nice one. The colors are great and I love the views of the old place. Is the white between the board chinking like is used in boat hulls?

Greg

Ciao Fulvio,

another happy scene from Holland. It's very different than the fishing villages we have in Brazil. It looks like a tourist place. Everything is beautiful, colorful and well treated. I like this compo, you chose nice elements and placed them right in the frame, the colors? Well, I don't need to say I like them! Great job buddy!
Abraço,
Carlos

The colorful brightness off the buildings contrasts well with the dark sky. Your attention to compositional detail, as in all your works, is spot on. You always pick locations for photographs that complement the available lighting.

Thanks for the detailed information about the place you photographed. That give the photograph more meaning.

maurizio

Hello Fulvio.
I like the bright colours and shapes in this scene, and your title too! Set against the darkish blue of the sky, the little buildings look great, and the bridge is a fine lead-in to the picture. However, the saturation is a little too much, it makes the man on the right look as though he has a very severe sunburn. The sharpness and the composition are superb.
Regards,
Andrew

hey, fulvio

that light you're reporting from holland is something special, friend, warm ang gliding... but then i'm not sure how much of it is HOLLAND and how much of its DON's ability to time and present. punchy, very punchy, Don. excellent work!

warm regards,
kristaps

Hallo Fulvio,
Hard licht, weinig schaduw.
Groet, Henk

Ciao Fulvio,
ottima composizione, bei colori sgargianti e nitidi .. sembra quasi un modello! :-)
Anche la nota è interessante.

Thanks for sharing, buona serata
Günther

Hey, Fulvio -

Great strong colors here. And I like the way the path curves to and past the main elements. Nice symmetry in the cranes in the back, too. I might not have paid attention to the crows if you hadn't made them the title. The colors are strong, but I don't see them as oversaturated.

Now, you are going to hate me for saying this, but the lamp post is a bit tilted. Originally I thought it was the white stick on top of the green house, but I copied it over to Photoshop and pulled out a ruler, and lo! It is absolutely straight. As is the black house next to it. The lamp, I fear me, is off by a hair. (We will now pause to duck lightning bolts.)

Best,
Dan

hei, Fulvio,
while everyone else is busy ducking light bolts and opening beers, I'll sneak in with my 2 green ogres.
did you pain the houses before you took this shot? and did you polish up the sky? LOVE the colours, and how the patterns and light create magic similar to the "Sympathy for the Devil". I guess it's the crows here that especially add to the Stephen King-mood of this shot. really cool stuff ;)

take care,
Kristine

Heel mooi fotowerk!
Groeten,
Lars

Ahhh, my friend of the marvelous light! ..Ciao, Fulvio and congratulations on a such a fine shot. I love the graphics in this and thecomposition and colors are just sublime. That wonderful Dutch light, fabulous detail and great color. Masterful work, Fulvio and just beautiful. Many thanks and warmest wishes,
Shelly

Hi fulvio,
I love all the tight paralell lines here, and the deep and richly saturated colors are just how I like them. The welcoming walkway leads into the scene very effectively. Well done and TFs. Gerald

Ciao Fulvio,
complimenti
Giorgio

The light and bold colours are magnificent. Nicely composed with the lamp post to hold the eye in the right side.

Bonsoir,
