Ce 11 mai, en Belgique, c'est la fête des mères : une journée pour mettre notre Maman à l'honneur et la remercier d'être là, tout simplement.
Bonne fête à toutes les mamans et la mienne tout particulièrement.
Origine de la Fête des Mères :
Dans la Grèce antique, au printemps les anciens Grecs fêtaient Rhéa, la mère de tous les dieux.
A Rome, au Vème siècle avant Jésus-Christ, on célébrait au mois de juin les "Matralia", la fête des femmes et des mères. La religion fit peu à peu disparaître ces coutumes païennes.
En Angleterre, entre le XVème et le XVIIème siècle, au début du carême, on commenca à célébrer une fête appelée "Mothering Sunday". La date fut ensuite fixée au quatrième dimanche du printemps. C'était l'occasion pour toutes les mères qui travaillaient comme domestiques dans les familles fortunées de retourner passer la journée à la maison avec leur famille.
Aux États-Unis, c'est en 1872 que Julia Ward Howe lança l'idée de la fête des mères. A cette occasion, elle organisait une célébration spéciale à Boston à tous les ans.
L'idée fut reprise en 1907 par une autre américaine de Philadelphie, Ana Jarvis. La première célébration eut lieu le deuxième dimanche de mai, à Grafton, Virginie de l'Ouest. Cette date était l'anniversaire du décès de la mère d'Ana.
En 1914, le président Wilson fit de la Fête des Mères une fête officielle devant se tenir le 2ème dimanche de mai.
En Belgique, la Fête des Mères se tient généralement le second dimanche du mois de mai. Elle a été instaurée à la suite des Etats-Unis et s'est calquée sur cette coutume américaine comme d'autres pays : notamment le Danemark, la Finlande, l'Italie, la Turquie, l'Australie.
En France, en 1806, Napoléon aurait évoqué la création d'une fête des mères officielle au printemps.
Le 16 juin 1918, à Lyon, est célébrée la première "Journée des mères". À la suite de cet événement, l'idée d'une Journée des Mères de Famille est lancée. Selon certains, les français se seraient inspirés des Américains qui, pendant la première guerre mondiale, envoyaient massivement du courrier à l'occasion de la fête des mères (qui était déjà établie aux Etats-Unis). À ce moment là la date envisagée pour cette fête est le 15 août.
Aujourd'hui, la fête des mères se célèbre le dernier dimanche du mois de mai, sauf lorsque celui-ci est aussi le jour de la Pentecôte. La fête des mères est alors reportée au premier dimanche de juin. C'est une fête officielle.
Au Viet-Nâm, comme les européens, les viêtnamiens ont aussi la fête des Mères. C'est la fête du Vu Lan au 15è jour du 7ème mois lunaire.

Origin of the Mother's Day:

In Vietnam, like Europeans, the vietnamese have also the Mother's Day. It is the festival of the Vu Lan the 15th day of the 7th lunar month. |
