[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Next stop is somewhat furtheron along the townwalls of Sluis.

I must have taken this picture from 50 positions untill I got it the way I wanted it: with all 5 items visible:

Item 1: the bridge. This wooden bridge connects the inner and the outer wall with each other. On the side where I stood to take the picture, there is a biking trail around the walls. Very nice for the nature lovers.

Item 2: the Southgate (Zuidpoort). Untill 1399, there was a wooden gate here, which was replaced with the current construction. The brick gate was finished in 1406, but it was a lot larger than it is now. The upper construction was torn down when the town walls were reinforced in the 17th century. If you want to know more about these town walls, pls check my previous post of the "Oostpoort", titled "Sheep on townwall". From this point started the road to Aardenburg.

Item 3: the water. I wanted to show you how wide the defensive ditch is at this point, so I wanted to have the water on both sides in the picture.

Item 4: the Mill (this is for Don Quichotte ;-)). The mill is called "the Brak". The mill was built in 1739 and got his name from a french dog race ("braque"). The mill was working at the time I took this picture, so I had to retake the pictures several times to get the wings in a proper way.

Item 5: the flower carpet. This flower carpet is being neately taken care of by the town workers and is an impression of the arms of the town, of which they are so proud.

A little extra: just left of this picture, there is a hole in the wall. This hole was made by the French at the end of the 18th century, when they captured the town. Now a road enters the town there. It was not very attractive, so I left that out.

I challenged myself to take all these items together in one picture without having to stitch pictures together. I hope you like the result.

Even if that's what you wanted (to get the 5 items) I believe it put too much stuff in the picture.

The viewer is kind of lost, not knowing where to look. I think this might have been better on many pictures.

A very interesting and nice picture, full of hystoric information ..

Hendrik, ik ken dit beeld als geen ander, voormij is dit meer punten waard dan 2, om 11,45 u dit beeld in Sluis maken zonder mensen, ik denk Hendrik dat gij al die mensen een consumatie aangeboden heeft in de Molen. Perspectief, dieote, kleuren alles is mooi! Grote nota ook!

Ik vind je compositie goed in elkaar gezet, Hendrik. Kleuren zijn goed, vooral het groen langs het water is erg mooi en de scherpte, van voor naar achteren !

I often put a lot of things into my own photos - so I love this one here, Hendrik :-) Not only is it a very rich view with all the different items to explore, but it is also a well-composed play of perspective and depth. You managed to arrange the objects in a way that we get to see every single one of them to the very best. Wonderful colors and clarity, and great notes. Very good job on this one.

Interesting picture with all those items, very good exposure and colours, I think that there are too many details for one picture, for a try is good, but you should concentrate in one or two subjects.

This one is all about details hendrik... And all are beautiful and combine to create a great scene. Nicely composed and wonderfully explained.

Mooi stadje Hendrik,
Ik vind dat je het keurig en kleurig in beeld hebt gebracht met die mooie lange brug die voor de nodige diepte zorgt erg goed gedaan.

Very nice catch, very well composed Hendrik. Not easy to combine so much elements in one shot, and you succeed very well here. The perspective is "clean" and this bridge over the water guides the exe to the other elements. Very well done.

J'aime bien cette composition, jolie couleurs également !

Heel stillistisch gedaan hier Hendrik. 5 Objecten in een foto. Zeer scherp en met echt mooie kleuren gemaakte kompositie. Brug is hier echt "gezet" met begin van rechtse onderste hoek tot in de midden. Een zeer succesvolle foto. Bravo.

A good result. Well composed to include so many good elements.

Mooi heldere kleuren en compositie om een zuiver beeld weer te geven van de werkelijkheid, dat is de kracht in je foto's en deze straalt van scherpte terwijl die in andere soms meer fluweelachtig overkomen. Good phototography takes work. You put in the work and you got it. Arent you glad you have a digital camera though? Imagine doing this with film! 50 photos for just one good result? I think my wife would kill me. :)
