Molen de Veer

For my next post I stay a little closer to home and upload a rather traditional photo from the Netherlands.
This photo was taken near to the village of Penningsveer, just outside my hometown Haarlem. It was taken last month on a clear and sunny winter day when you already could smell the spring in the air a bit. :-)

You can see here Molen de Veer (Molen 'the Feather'). The mill is located in de Veer- en Waarderpolder, East of Haarlem. It was built in 1701, burnt down in 1998 (arson) and rebuilt in 2001-2002. The type of mill is called an achtkante buitenkuier.

A little over three years ago I also uploaded a photo of this mill, which can be found here.

Bonjour Lars,
Belle vue de ce moulin qui malheureusement a dus être reconstruit car il y a des vandales qui saccages tout, ca valais la peine de le reconstruire car il est beau et ancien.
Un belle image ou toutes les couleurs sont belles ,
de jolis reflets dans l'eau que se soit de ce moulin ou des herbes ou du ciel.

Hello Lars,

I like very much this photo because it is note a tourist image, it is an image of daily life. It introduces in an only one picture elements of a Dutch village: mill, bikes, channel, high trees, ... Also bravo for the nice images in water.

Without doubt that the mills are so characteristic elements in your country, like tulips.

I love this scene, because it combines elements countryside to urban elements, in a wide membership, with good handling of light and shade beautiful. The reflections in the water are precious and people cycling, dynamic environment.

How could I resist an image of a windmill named after me! :D
There is a big difference in the two posts even though they are both winter ones. The previous one looks as if the sun was about to set and here it must have been less windy as you have captured some nice clear reflections. I like the inclusion of the cyclists, something else we associate with your country. well done

Une vue tout à fait typique de ces paysages de la Hollande dont j'ai gardé un bon souvenir!
C'est bien d'avoir choisi ce POV avec le reflet de ce majestueux moulin dans l'eau du canal.
Une belle composition avec des couleurs très naturelles.

Are you sure this is not a carper photo? Ha ha, the almost square format and the mill reminds me of him, the presence of humans sets it apart though, nice clear winter light.

Nice perpective toward the windmill, and of course nice reflections, especially for the long browns herbs in the water. I also not the discrete appareance of the two masts in the background, which means there is a Dutch boat somewhere behind the windmill.

Hello Lars,
Nice photo! You balanced well the composition. I mean that you put the windmill to left, the houses to the right side. I also like the canal that leads the eye to the mill and we can see its reflection in the canal as well. Good colours and sharpness too!

Dag Lars,

Bedankt voor uw informatie voor meerdere foto's samen te brengen.
Dit plaatje, oer Hollands maar o zo mooi om naar te kijken.
De kleine kreek voert ons naar de molen, want deze staat er statig bij met de weerspiegeling in het water.
Zelfs de masten van de achtergelegen boot laat zich nog gelden, mooie compositie, prachtige voorstelling.

You can hardly go more Dutch than this, Lars, a typical windmill with a lovely reflection in a small canal, some cyclers along the country road, characteristic houses and even some masts in the distance. Everything works well together.

This an excellent daily life picture. Very well composed and the people on bikes makes it very vivid. The windmill, the bending road and the houses that in my view look very Dutch are also elements that make the picture very attractive. TFS!

Hello Lars,
beautifully composed this shot, as always. The windmill is well placed in the frame and its refelction on the canal has been well used to lead the eye through the compo. Good choice to include the cyclists to add a different point of interest.

wonderful clear capture with a strong reflection and a lot of details to explore. The ship's masts in the background, the mill and the bikers, the new houses compared to the old one (but the ship seems to stay there). Nice to compare it with the old one.

Een heerlijke polderplaat, Lars. Perfect gecomponeerd en met de reflecties en de twee fietsers en de voetganger die het beeld levendig maken. Het licht was inderdaad mooi - het typische Hollandse cultuurlandschap komt hier heel mooi tot zijn recht!

Hoi, Lars.
De sfeer is perfect, dat is het eerst wat mij opvalt. Dankzij je fotografische skills, uiteraard, maar niet alleen. Voor Nedershots moet je volgens mij ook een apart gevoel hebben. Het is minder simpel dan wat het lijkt. Het licht in dit land is HEEL anders dan anders... maar daar heb je geen enkele moeite mee : PRACHTIG!
Het ademt Holland.
