Photographer’s Note
Vlissingen (Flushing) is situated on the mouth of the Schelde, on the island Walcheren. It is the pilot station for Dutch and Belgian pilots. Here river pilots leave the ships coming down river from Antwerpen or one of the other harbours and sea pilots go on board to guide the boats through the shoals off the Belgian and Dutch coast. Same goes for ships going upriver to Antwerpen, Teneuzen or Gent. The yellow boat is Dutch and the black one with the white upperstructure is Belgian. On teh other side of the river you can see Breskens in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. It was a rather dark and rainy day when this photo was taken.

Intéressante photographie John ! Je suis désolé de mon ignorance, mais ces bateaux pilote sont-ils utilisés pour guider de gros bateaux (problème de tirant d'eau) ? Pour les bateaux de plaisance, je suppose qu'il existe des indications à l'aide de bouées, et autres panneaux fluviaux ou maritimes.
En tout cas, c'est une très belle prise de vue John.

John, you make it really good with this dark tones and small strips of very nice colours. Good eye for such details. Your composition is also very clean. I like especialy small red lights...

Good capture of the pilots in full swing going out from the harbour.
(seems that some of those would have been wanted yesterday before the the accident with the sea scouts....)

Nice, I like it. Die drie bote werk goed. Dit is net die lig - time of day, wat jou beroof van 'n baie goeie foto. Bietjie sonlig so alles laat "pop' het van die skerm af.

Great shot, John. I like the clear detail on the boat and its colours against the 'black' sea. Well captured and framed.
