Photographer’s Note

Together with Lars I went to Utrecht yesterday.

Utrecht is the capital city of the province of Utrecht. It is the fourth largest city of the Netherlands and it has a population of 288,732.

I took this photo from the tower of the Dom church, also called the Cathedral of Saint Martin. The tower is 112,32 meters high and it is the highest church tower of the Netherlands. On the photo, you see the area of Utrecht's Central Station. The reflection is a reflection from a train; most trains are yellow and blue here.

About the photo: I used the very strong optical zoom of my Olympus (10x). I thought the photo wouldn't come out so very well, but when I used "auto colours", "auto levels" and "auto contrasts" in Photoshop, the photo looked quite okay.
I rotated the photo a tiny bit, cropped it a bit and gave it somewhat more light. It was again very hard to make the photo smaller without loosing details and without using more than 200kb.

Looks like a very cubism city, Stef
It's a great show of reflection. Details of reflection show a colorful and surreal city image. I feels like looking at cubism art.

Jij ook tak for i går! Deze is dus toch heel goed gelukt! Ik vind hem echt prachtig met die vertekening in die ruiten en die gele boemel doet het er ook erg goed bij. Lang leve de zoom! :-D

Hallo Stef!
Das ist ja ein unglaubliches Foto und eine unglaubliche Architektur - ein richtiger "Hingucker"! So eindruckscoll das Ganze auch ist, aber ist es nicht auch etwas seelenlos mit all diesen Spiegelungen? Ja nicht hineinschauen! Schön, dass Du am unteren Bildrand noch etwas Grünes "erwischt" hast ;-)

Very interesting graphism for the ultra-modern architecture shot. You could have put this picture in the "decisive moment" category as well because the reflection of the yellow and blue NS train in the glass of the building is great.

Het is een wonderbaarlijke foto met al deze weerspiegelingen, u heeft het aangedurft om dit te maken en met een fantastisch resultaat.
Ik zou durven zeggen een kunst werk opzich, goed van kleuren en samenstelling.

I'm not surprised you struggled to get the photo under the 200kb as there is a lot of tiny detail and the square format gives a bigger area. It's an excellent shot though with lots of graphic appeal. I particularly like the reflection of the train. Good work

Great graphism with a dynamic look to the foreground, with the action of moving vehicles and the trams. I like the exposure level. The photo is so dramatic that I find myself crying out for a larger size, but as your note relates, there are constraints with posting criteria. Well captured, Stef.

Well framed view of this topmodern glass facade, it delivers a nicely distorted reflection of the surroundings that is different from the usual ones we get to see, your timing with the passing train is excellent to add color to the picture.

Bonjour Stef,
parfaitement cadrée pour montrer ce que tu voulais faire apparaitre.
Ces sturctures en escaliers sont très graphiques, apportant de solides obliques.
Une photo très nette où se détachent bien les réflections.

Hoi Stef, wat een prachtige, gelaagde foto. Ongelooflijk, al die horizontale lagen, zo mooi gestapeld! De gele refelctie van de trein maakt het allemaal nog aantrekkelijker. Mooi geframed aan de rechterkant.
