Last saturday the sky was so stunning, that I could not resist going out and try and get some good shots.
This one's taken with backlight, and I applied cmartos' PP method in Paintshop Pro, because I just wanted to try this out and to make a dramatic sky even more dramatic.
I am very fond of the harbour because there's so much going on always, and I am fond of the silhouettes of cranes, like in this picture.
I'm not sure I like this method for my pics, but wanted to try it once anyway.
Dear friends, I will stop participating on TE for a while, because I have serious problems with my right arm, (RSI), and my physiotherapist says I should only use the keyboard for half an hour on an evening. This is not enough to get my picture ready, or rate all the beautiful pictures. I may give short comments, or rate the note, because I can't completely stay away, addicted as I am. ;-)
To look at it from the bright side, will have more time to read a book again, and pickup my other passion, singing, which I have badly neglected lately!
Ran Noiseware, PP in PSP clarify 2 times strength 4, saturation +3, 2xclarify, strength 2, adjusted brightness and added a frame

Fantastic Rinie, what a beautiful sky and all these details, great picture of your Rotterdam !

Wow, what a sky! The lower part of the image is not particularly interesting, but everything looks good bellow such beautiful cloud formations. Hope your arm is back in shape soon.
mikee (2354) 2004-06-25 17:08
Well captured harbour atmosphere. Wonderful dramatic sky enhanced by your PP. It looks very 3D. More than real :)
Galeota (10338) 2004-06-25 17:40
Hello Rinie. I think you have a great composition here and, even if the pp result is interesting, you didn't need to make it so evident. Still like it a lot.
Am hopping that your arm gets better quickly.
maphoto (8082) 2004-06-25 18:00
The sky is fantastic, a lot of light with beautiful details, particularly cool on the water, well done.

Wnderful, Rinie, and excellent PP. I hope that your arm cures fast.
robiuk (10807) 2004-06-25 20:24
Get well soon, my dear!
At first sight I though it was a harbour similar to Pearl Harbour - full of war ships, but now I see it's because of that dramatic cloudy sky and lots of backlited tones of blues & greys.
Kenny10pin (19301) 2004-06-25 20:29
Absolutely stunning here, I like the clouds especially here and the boats, the lighting is just beautiful
cgrindahl (6113) 2004-06-25 23:34
Sorry about your arm Rinie and very glad you're taking care of yourself by getting ample rest.
This is an unreal sky and dramatic harbor. Personally I like it very much. Your composition, leading the eye along the waterway with the black crane in the distance is fine. The backlit sun creates glistening water as well as dramatic clouds. Fine work Rinie.
Rest well and we will all look forward to your return with arm well rested.

Very nice clouds and a very good composition !
Very well done.

'n Baie "moody" foto, amper met die belofte van 'n storm. Die muisarm is 'n pyn in die nek, nie waar nie, ek kry die pyn in die skouerknop. Whistle while you work, soos die Engelse sê - sing maar terwyl jy werk. Voorspoed, en "keep us posted"
eleparc (24063) 2004-06-26 6:06
this is a very nice shot rinie, and i do hope those clouds on you arm will disappear as far away as the wind of health will push them... looking forward to more shots from you in a near future... take care... and take advantage of that time not only to read but to make close-up portraits ...;-)) LOL
yours friendly - Eric

Excellent pp Rinie - you've achieved a wonderful dramatic effect here. Rest your arm, enjoy your singing and reading and come back to TE when you're 100% fit again. All the best for a quick recovery.

Hey, get well soon, or the rest of us addicts will miss you too much :o) This is exellent, two of the things I have learned to appreciate here on TE in one shot - the harbour and amazing clouds. The flickering light spots on the water and on the car on the right are really nice. Great PP work btw.
ChrisJ (94756) 2004-06-26 6:36
Very dramatic sky. Pls get well soon.
nwoehnl (122) 2004-06-26 16:12
Dear Rinie, I'm sorry to learn about your arm. I'm glad you're trying to defy your TE addiction and trying to get some rest as well as pursue the singing (very nice, didn't know about that yet :-)
What a stunning shot before "going on leave" though - this is exactly the kind of sky on which the clarify tool can do stunning things. The harbor setting at the bottom is delightful in geometric detail, but is really dwarfed by the dramatic appearance that the clouds got. Very nice.
See you around ;-)
Rockyboy (20598) 2004-06-27 15:45
I am very sorry to learn about your right arm, Rinie... and hope you will enjoy by singing...
I am also addicted by TE and spend too much time here... but for example, I had today a wonderful experience by meeting Pierre Lucas (prlcs) at a hot balloon meeting. Rotterdam is not so far than my home... If you want visit Belgium, it is not a problem.
Anyway, your picture is very nice and i like the clouds. Bravo and see you soon...;-)

manny (21833) 2004-06-30 2:53
Rinie, do you always get good sky over there. Over here, I am so fed up with overcast sky so I just aim my camera at people (what a great excuse for my so-so skills in landscapes, huh).
This is a very good picture. With this kind of sky, a very simple lower part would suffice. But anyway, I have to comend this picture for capturing such vivid details.
How are you doing? I hope you get well soon. And thanks for critiquing my picture today despite your condition.

Fantastic!

Incredible harbour secenary. What a clouds! and light everywhere, so shinny!! Strange and strikking atmosphere, well done!

Fantastic scene. The clouds, silhouettes & general ambiance create a powerful image.
Also, a fine explination of PP work. Well done.

I hope your arm is better now! I have not been on TE very much lately, and I realize I have missed many of you pictures!
This shot is excellent. I like the effect you have made on the sky. It really adds drama to this shot. I also like the contrast between the soft, round shape of the clouds against the sharp lines and forms in the harbour.
Very well seen and captured, great post pro work!

Oh wow gafe lucht zeg. En mooi met al die kranen.

Fantastic sky and all these details in the harbour
very nice pics

I just read your reply to my question in which you refered to this picture.
I like it very much !
The reflections in the water are beautiful.
The most impressive is the sky which is like a painting. The post-processing is really great for that kind of landscape.
Hednaskald (149) 2008-12-25 19:57
This is one of the most amazing skies I've ever seen. Congrats on that. And the crowd of boats is also definitely worth mentionning. A very good picture overall.
Vague (307) 2011-11-15 6:18
The subject is original, but provides a very interesting result. The time though, the light, the clouds transform the photo to a breathtaking effect.
