Photographer’s Note
When a rain shower arrives (not exactly a rare occurrence in Amsterdam) you may want to get the kids home before they get too wet. The method here, while not recommended from a safety point of view, is effective. (The baby is in a safety seat, but the girl, well,...)
Hopefully this guy's wife does not read TE, otherwise he might be in trouble for using this method of transport.

Ken!!!! A panning! My weakness! And you know it, don't you? :)))))
Again, you inimitable sense of humor in your note! I laughed out loud! You know how to look so "serious", but the humor is there, quite obvious! The method here, while not recommended from a safety point of view, is effective. Still laughing!
Ok, technically, it is really good. The panning is well done, the subjects being very clear. The highlights are perfectly controlled, which is not so easy in panning shots. The other thing that is not easy to do, is a panning when the subject is not straight in front of you. Here, it is in an oblique way, if you see what I mean. I do quite often panning. I'm not sure I have an "oblique" panning that has worked for me!
Maybe it would have been a little better if the background was slightly more blurred (1/50 or even 1/40 sec.) but I am not so sure about that. Just wondering...
I kept the icing on the cake for the end: the meaningful of the photo itself. When we start panning, we tend to become crazy (well, for some people like me, at least) and shoot at everything that is moving. People, cars, birds, bicycle riders (remember one of my photos that scored high for I don’t know why?). But quite often, the subject itself is far from being so interesting. It is the panning itself that is interesting, but that’s all. Here, it is not the case. The father is wet from the rain running on him, and the guy in the back seems to try to avoid it. There is a sense of speed that goes well with "We have to get home soon!". A winner on all plans for me!

This is a wonderful picture and for several reasons. First the human reason, his expression against the rain is terrific. The baby’s face is also excellent, turn to the side to not have the rain on the eyes. The panning is also very well done with a sharp main object and a still clear enough background. Finally, the colours are superb even in what seams to be a difficult light. Well done.

Hi Ken
This is the country of the bicycle. Anytime, even under the rain !
Excellent capture with a nice expression on the face.

This is cute and sweet, your speed and pan are just right, and the focus perfectly on the cutest center.
What can a dad do under the circumstances....well, if she falls she will fall 3 ft and get a bruised forehead, and the poor pedestrian (or an unwary photographer) a wounded knee!

A nice bit of street photography, Ken, and great panning technique too. The sharpness of your main subjects is very good with just enough blur in the background. I like the exopression that you have captured on the man's face. The inclusion of the two women in the background with the unbrella is either a stroke of luck or a stroke of genius, as it immediately tells us it is raining. Cheers . . . David
