Photographer’s Note

The Oude Kerk (Old Church) seen from on top of the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church).

The Old Church was originally known as the
St. Hippolyte Church and building was finished in 1246.
Bartholomew van der Made started rebuilding and
extending the parish church some time around the
middle of the thirteenth century. From that time
onwards, the church on the Oude Delft bore the name of
the patron saint of its ‘founder’, the St Bartholomew
church.
The 75m high gothic tower with its brick spire and
four angle towers was added 1325-1350 and restored last in 1995.
