Photographer’s Note

Here one of a little series of pictures of one of the hidden treasures of the center of Amsterdam, the begijnhof. It's an oasis of peace situated just on the Kalverstraat, the most crowded shopping street of the city.
The houses are 17th and 18th century and there are two churches. The inhabitants were 'begijnen', women who lived alone in a sort of semi monastic community but without the formal vows.

beautiful place, and looks peaceful... the shadow on the bottom right is a bit disturbing but still a good daily life shot i think, gerrit...

A lovely set of what seems to me as typical Dutch architecture. Some nice lighting and tones and good clarity. The person going into their house provides a touch of animation. TFS.

J'ai découvert les beguinages à Brugges, et j'y ai trouver effectivement un endroit d'un grand calme. Celui-ci en plus de l'architecture flamande présente des couleurs qui le rende très agréable.

Hallo Gerrit,

Ik loop graag eens door de oude Begijnhoven, dit geeft een gevoel van totale rust en stilte, u speelt hier zeer goed met licht en schaduw, wat de foto alleen maar beter maakt, goede samenstelling en prachtige kleuren.
Misschien de volgende keer krijgen wij een breder overzicht in totaal! Bedankt voor uw bezoek.

Hoi Gerrit,
Ik moet toch eens wat vaker naar Amsterdam gaan en beter uit mijn ogen gaan kijken want hier ben ik nog niet geweest.
Mooie foto van het Begijnhof met goed licht. Misschien had je je standpunt iets verder naar links kunnen verplaatsen en iets kunnen draaien zodat de gevels rechts er wat frontaler op staan. Ik weet echter niet of dat ter plekke mogelijk is.
Goed werk hier.

the colours are jumping into the eye with the bright light. Very appealing view on some typical facades with the gables, the stairs and fences. The small foreground shadow is a good detail.

The quality of the shot is amazing. The colours and the lights are marvellous. The PoV is perfect to get the view. The sharpness of the details are superb.the light falling on the buildings allow us to feel the texture of the wall. Very nice shot of this tempting place. TFS

Wonderful section of from center of famous city. Multi story typical houses with narrow façade are exactly reflects old ambiance there. Brick construction, red roof tiles and white colors are my favorites every time. Congratulations.

Hofjes is waarschijnlijk een prachtig Hollands thema. Ik denk dat ik binnenkort ook maar eens naar het Haarlemse begijnenhof ga met de camera en naar al die andere hofjes. Ik heb vast deze mooie blauwe lucht besteld.

Dag, Gerrit. Deze foto brengt me terug naar mijn jeugd, toen ik A'dam bezocht in 1975. Ik heb een foto van de Japanse kersenboom van het begijnhof. Je foto toont de mooie gevels van de huizen en laat ons zien hoe rustig het begijnhof is. Zeer mooi licht, maar ik had misschien geprobeerd minder schaduw te hebben (als dat mogelijk was...)

Het licht is moeilijk maar ik vind dat je hier een fraaie foto hebt neergezet vanuit de schaduw, mooie lijnen, goed werk.

Olá Gerrit, gorgeous image of these typical façades of Amsterdam. The composition is very well executed and the lighting is marvellous making the textures of the bricks stand out. Excellent shot.

Districts as I appreciate them, calm and resting. I find these architectures typically Dutch particularly aesthetic and conceived well, in particular with this small garden in front of the house. Pretty catch of sight and a light which gives much value to the details.
