Photographer’s Note
the feeling when you're at the beach on an early spring day. The hard wind, the sun, the water (still to cold to swim),a few boats, and gulls. after a pleasant walk with the wind in your back you sit down and stare at the sea...just you and your thoughts... after half an hour gazing to the sea you sudden realize that this is what see. a horizontal stripe with a few ornaments...boring? maybe, but a hell of a way to be bored...

Hi Jorrit, Very nice one with that terribly empty sky, with that one white sail, and the bird on the diagonal. I like the noise very much in this picture!

couldn´t be better, Jorrit
I wish I had this sky (well, not soooooooooo gray) and the sea to wet my feet.
excellent notes.

the seagull in the top right corner and the 3 sails in the bottom left corner (the first is clearly visible, but behind it there are 2 white dots ) showing out in the grey shade are amazing. this is a very very creative framework. doulfnt have been better like a lot of people have already said. i like the dark and depressing tone in this photogrpah.

Nice composition Jorrit, with the enhanced grain structure adding to the mood. I can't work out what the horizontal banding is, whether it is atmospheric conditions or not but unfortunately they look like processing marks and are quite distracting as such.

Wow this is definately one of my favorite pictures on trek earth to date. I love the emptiness of the picture and the way the bird and the boat compliment each other. I would like to know how you took this..is this a wide angle lense?

this reminds me of the song "do you realize..." by the flaming lips.
lovely picture. the thumbnail looks like a rather boring picture, but once you open it you realize it's fantastic with the one boat and one gull...i wish i was there!
i like how grainy it is also.

How incredibly imaginative to present a frame that is 95% grey and grain. Whilst the 5% detail is significant, the bird and boat in opposite corners, the strip of sea, that 95% is immensely telling. With a really good large print this is a gallery wallhanger for sure.

Minimalisme in photography. It gives a certain enjoyable "Zen" feeling.
I must say the most enjoyable of Holland for me (coming from a region with high moutains) was the hugeness of the sky - and maybe I should write "skies", such a scala...
