It’s back to Holland for a tribute to our friend Hans from the area of Amsterdam.
Hans posted a beautiful picture of the Rotterdam ‘Zwaan’ bridge for Rinie and me, so I found it fitting to post a Amsterdam bridge pic in return.
This is one of the two red foot- and bicycle bridges between the Spoorenburg and the Borneo quarter of the ‘Oostelijk Havengebied’ in Amsterdam. It was late afternoon. Like the ‘Kop van Zuid’ in Rotterdam (a detail of the new Luxor theater in this area is here) it’s a former harbour area which is converted into a high density residential and commercial area. Other quarters are the ‘Java-eiland’, the ’KNSM-eiland’, the ’Rietlanden’.
This bridge is famous in its category. The international Footbridge Award was given to it in 2002. It was designed by IBA, the ‘IngenieursBureau Amsterdam’ , the civil engineering & public works department of the municipality of Amsterdam . It’s special in two respects: it wave-like appearance and it’s construction. It was entirely factory constructed (including the deck and the lighting) and just had to be transported to the site and attached to the land heads.

A cracking architecture shot, Bert. That bridge sure is a standout in shape, design and color, and you may have found the shooting angle that fits the maximum amount of it into a single picture frame - very good. You get a fine reflection on the water, and the late afternoon light illuminates the bridge and the background quite beautifully. Well done.

Hey, Bert, this is fantastic capture! ;-))
The magnificent light and vibrant red are bringing unique atmosphere here, together with the lovely diagonal compposition of the bridge and those fine layers of sky and water. Excellent job indeed! Thank you for sharing!

Hello Bert, the details of the engineering of this bridge are interesting, their design in harmony with the nature, as well as it is it the the easiness and speed with the one which these they can be assembled and their readiness, I like illumination in the bottom of your picture, the reflection of the golden tones on the doors and windows of the buildings and envelope the river. Cordial greetings. *Ninfa Urania*

What a fantastic shot Bert! You found an amazing angle here. Moreover, you choosed a very good moment, probably afternoon as sun is low, giving a lateral/rear, warm and beutiful light. Shapes, lines and colours stand out with much strongness and architecture concept as well as structure is revealed in its best way. Your POV, angle and cropping is outstanding, a very strong image. Congratulations Bert!

Well, here I am ....
I liked it to dedicate my bridge (sorry, your bridge) to you and Rinie, but now....I don't know, what to say ? ? ?
I am confused, really ! And this is such a very nice picture; for me ? ?
And your story is instructive too.
Thank you very much, my Rotterdam-friend ! !
This is one for my favourite pictures !

Amazing color of this bridge, and it is captured from a very good angle. It looks like there is some lens distortion, which I like very much, because it makes the bridge look un-symetric. The lamps on the bridge are well decorated. Vewry well seen and done, Bert.
Zanni (6108) 2004-05-15 15:48
I could say that it is a sexy bridge for its flexuous curves and colour. Good angle and notes.
P.S: I add the pic to bridge theme

Hi Bert, here he is, good picture of this work of art. I like the curves and the light on it. Good composition and good angle.
It's a real beautiful bridge, too, I must say. and the colors are strong and vivid. A nice tribute for Hans!

What a great red. Great sky, too. The arch of this bridge is great. Very interesting bridge. The sky is very nice and matches the scene and the lighting is perfect. It makes a nice gentle arch across the image, too, so I can enter this photo in a nice way. Great angle. Very nicely done.

Very interesting this bridge and even added value by having the fine light to bring out the strong colours. Good work indeed.

Strange architecture development by the photograph well, likes framing and the colors, beautiful work.
Isabelle (9046) 2004-05-16 19:54
such an elegant colorful composition, bert!
i like how my eyes are lead through it, trapped by the dominant red of the bridge and the boat.
notes are excellent.

Very unique piece of metal working
traditional in principle but avantgarde in look, i can't tell from this perspective but it looks to be asymmetrical with the "wave" rolling towards the opposite bank ?
very cool :)
omritoppol (826) 2004-05-17 2:05
It's all been written, so i'll just say that you really captured it beautifully. Great TE shot

What an angle you've discovered, Bert! What a perspective! And you managed to include the whole structure, it must have been tough. Bravo!
