Well, after finishing the last hard parts (very heavy exams) of the theory of my study medicines, I had planned a nice weekend off with my girlfriend. We allready booked a small bungalow at some major Dutch bungalow renting company (:P). Hired a car, and left on last friday..to come back today.
Ofcourse I took my dSLR equipment with and hoped for nice weather.

Well, the weather was pretty bad, as usual in Holland in january, but I was lucky to capture this shot on saturday afternoon. For myself, I like this photo the most of the 42 photo's I took this weekend.
That count of photo's..is very low for me, for a weekend off..

I achieved it quite simple, it's taken from the door of our bungalow, just before we left for a walk.

You can view the very exact spot in the map info..you can even see and count the bungalows.

It became a real short walk..as soon drops of rain fall down the sky..and since my K100D isn't weathersealed like it's bigger brother the K10D, I decided to put it inside again..assuring the safety of this photo.

I think that covers pretty well the story behind the photo.

About the distortion in this photo, I know it's present, but I decided not to correct it, as correcting it harmed my sharpness a lot, so I left it this way..

I just hope you like it!
Look forward to your critiques.

Hi Emiel,
Good composition you got there!
It was nice the sun only hit 3 of the bungalow, the same that got the dark clouds on top, contrastating with the other 2 who are separated from them by a small and very nice bush.
Congratulations!

Hello,
a nice and pleasant view with this really soft and low light contrasting with the dark clouds behind. These are generally always good conditions for photos.

Congratulations and best regards

Kristof

Hi Emiel!
Wow, bad weather just coming.
excellent shot, your lighting and color are beautiful.

Hi Emiel,
Great , graet , great capture.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

The distortion is actually good, Emiel. Adds to the mood of the impending storm, as though the wind and the light were warping those strange, triangular bungalows.

Hi Emiel, congratulations on your tests. Nice moment for celebration and relaxing the right stuff to do some photography. The place is nothing outstanding but the result is quite remarkable. The wide-angle distortion doesn't bother me at all. The light conditions and the sky with those clouds is great. I probably would have croped out the lower part of the picture with the shadow on it, otherwise perfect.
Regards, Peter

Hi Emiel,
Beautifull photo of the punishing clouds in the background and the little house and excellent colors. Have a nice week. Best regards. Salvator.

Hi Emiel, very interesting scene and example of architecture these bungalows!
i like a lot your composition and the distortion of the wide lens too...
It is good for me in this case not to correct the perspective...
I like also the lights in this image!
VERY VERY GOOD WORK...AND NOTE!
ciao!
Valeria

hey this one is really nice emiel... the bungalows are well placed in the frame and i think the light and the heavy clouds look superb... weldone...
(how is it going at school?)

cheers

korkut:)

Hi Emiel,

nice shot of this bungalows which seem to be typical for western Europe (in Germany we have them too). Very good lighting and colours.

Regards

Andreas

Ciao Emiel!!
Sure you and your girlfriend enjoyed a better weather in Greece ! But this shot is great, I like its light, there is a strange atmosphera around thos bungalows.
If I can write also a little critique, I would like to see something more of the tree in the right side. But... doesn't matter! It is a nice work

Livia

Hey Emiel,

Weekend weather gone bad! Excellent shot IMO! You are challenged in taking pictures of different weather situations. I have been a fan of your Greek images, those sunny bright images, now it seems you are really a 'weathered' photographer! Using such wide angle gives breathtakingly expansive view of the scenery. A bad weathered scenery is beautifully captured here!

All the best!

Jom

Good morning Emiel.
The bad weather gave the very good light -:) Nice framed and composed photo from these very interesting houses they are beautyful.
I will be back.
Evan

Hi Emiel!

This is a great example of how sometimes bad weather can help to take a great photo! This one is indeed a great photo, beautifully composed with great POV. Allthough the sky is very cloudy, the colours are very "vivid"! Congratulations!

Hercules

Hi Emiel

It may have been a bad weather weekend but you captured it well. The clouds are very dark and menacing and the light is soft. You have set a very nice mood. Well done.

Hi Emiel,

I love the way the bend of the trees .. the shape of the bungalows ... the clouds .. the light .. all work together to give such an impression of the wind .. when I have reflected on this it is really interesting the way light to dark moves opposite across the sky and land ..

take care,

John

ps. sorry about all the sad hospital visits .. that must be tough .. glad you got some time in a bungalow.

Hi Emiel!
This is a very difficult to capture and beautiful photo you have given us here. I like very much the way the light adds a mystique atmosphere to the scenery. The colours are perfect and your exposure is ideal. What I think is unnessesary in the photo is central left part, where the blue sky is. I would have moved my camera to the right to capture a full grey sky.
As for the bad weather, I am not sure! In Greece we are still waiting for the winter so your bad weather would be rather good for us here! Greeting from sunny Greece!

Hi Emiel!
So nice work the light did to this shot! Not too complicated scene, but it has its mood.
Congrats.
Seb

Hello Emiel,
The light is dramatic, telling the story of a change in weather!
The image has fine textures and good colours...
Well balanced composition!

Hi Emiel, Bad weather it looks it, however you have still managed the light very well & great colour, the overall composition is very good & superbly sharp, I must say TFS, I haven't seen this type of house in years, kind regards Wilson.

Just goes to show that you don't need perfect blue skies to create a wonderful sky. Nice work.

Hi Emiel.

The light is very good and you managed it very well.

Hello Emiel,

The photo is so sharp & clear but it conveys the impending rain. Great light & shadow. You are right about the distortion but I don't really know if correcting for distortion would harm the presentation too much. Regards. Latiff.

Hi Emiel,
you had a good luck for super photographer conditions: light conditions, dramatic clouds..and the result is this expressive shot.
Just I agree with Peter that crop of the shadow in front will be better.
Regards,
Stanislav

Hi Emiel, this is a great study of light and darkness. I particularly like the way the dark chalets are set against the blue sky and the illuminated chalets against the storm clouds. A wonderful shot.

Hoi Emiel,

This is a surreal scene!
And again I see the Skyfreak part... ;)
Interesting compo here, fantastic light and great colours!

Do I see another dog-star in the offing? Tfs, Jay
