Photographer’s Note
This underpass is part of Rotterdam subway station Beurs and connects the two parts of the partly underground shopping mall the ‘Koopgoot’ . While leaving the basement level of a department store we saw that the underpass was almost empty – a very rare occasion in this busy station. So my love offered her shoulder to steady the camera and I took this 1/8 sec shot.
This underpass is part of the Erasmus North-South subway line. Because of restrictions in size and the location, modern subway-station design specifications such as high ceilings and daylight openings in the roof couldn’t be used. To still give the passers-by and the passenger a safe and “not caged in feeling”, the massive pillars carrying the Coolsingel above (the main thoroughfare which bisects the Koopgoot) were clad with lighting ornaments, small lights were fitted in the polished floor and the ceiling was fitted with reflective materials. Considering the father who takes the time to play with his child in this shot, these measures work well.

Bert, hier geeft u een kunstwerk ten toon, zeer moeilijk om dit te verwezelijke door teveel licht op diverse plaatsen, maar u bent er zeer goed ingeslaagd. De tekst is ok. zoals altijd trouwens. Mooi werk Bert.

I like the reflections of the column lights on the shiny floor. Good composition too and the exposure you have used is well selected... nothing is too dark or light.

Nice shot. The columns are like tubes of energy. Like plasma or something is flowing through them. They make nice reflections. The father playing with the child adds a nice human touch to what could be a dreary scene due to all the restrictions you mentioned. Nice view and the entrances at the opposite side gives this a nodal area type feel. Like it should be bustling at other times but it's an off hour. Nice job.

Hi Bert, prachtige foto!!! Goeie notes!
