Taken from Rotterdam's high tower Euromast, (1960), while again nighthunting with Bert on August 28.
The view is to the West, in the direction of the North Sea. What you see is the secondary road into Schiedam for traffic by road (there's also the freeway more to the north), but this one takes you along the harbours. To the left of the well lit road, is the river Nieuwe Waterweg (New Waterway) along which many goods are transported inland. Nowadays the main harbours are found very close to the sea, so that the big sea ships can move out of Rotterdam as soon as possible.
Rotterdam as been the World's largest Port for about 27 years. Two years ago Shanghai and Singapore grew bigger.

Bert's picture of the hunt is here, and see the workshop for a picture of Bert himself.

Yo Rinie, spectacular capture again. I love the contrast between the sweeping yellow traffic arteries and the dramatic sky. And the play of speckled light over the city magic. Great job!
Selemat tidoerr for later,
Bert

Hi Rinie - the Euromast provides you with a great pov for this view of Rotterdam and I like the way you chose to include the nice curve of the main road. The sky is very powerful (maybe a fraction too much?) and the blue, gold and black colours are lovely. I like both the workshops you & Bert included:)

Rinie

Wonderful capture of city nightlife, good contrast between the dark sky and the city light below. Thanks for sharing.

David

Hello Rinie
Very dramatic photo. The sky really sets this photo up. The threatening black clouds covering the night blue is superb. Great shot!
Cheers

Hi Rinie.

Good POV of Rotterdam at night. The sense of depth is good as well.

Rgs, Oscar

Hi Rinie,

Another spectacular sight of the city in which you show again a big control on the light and the time of exposure. I like also the framing, with this strongly illuminated wide avenue, like a real vein full of life. I like also the contrast between the light's sea of the city and the sea of clouds that besieges it from above. Great image, Rinie. Excellent!

Have a nice week.

Angel.

Excelelnt lighitng. The sky is great with those dark clouds.
Priya

Hello Rinie,

Ja Rinie,
deze is een stuk harder van kleuren. Beetje meer gedurfd denk ik. Maar zeker niet onaardig. Nee uitstekend werk hoor.

What happen with Rinie that lately is always among the clouds? Wonderful title for a wonderful photo, one of those you think "How lucky I am to be living". Beside prove that the better shot could be just beside you, it´s just a question of pay attention. Take care dear.

Nice photo, Rinie, I'm just coming from Bert's one. The same fine fluffy clouds as a topping at the blue hour, but a different angle on the details below. An appealing urban ensemble of lights and shapes; it seems to me that it might be a little sharper but judging from the sheer amount of detail in this frame, JPEG compression may be showing its ugly head on this one. Greetings from Grenoble.

Wow Rinie, is this Rotterdam? I can hardly recognize it! The sky is really amazing, very beautiful. Sorry, don't have much more to say, but I like it very much.

very dramctic, Rinie, the colours, the clouds. I love the winding gold river leadign to its pot of gold, Schiedam ;). I keep peering to see my house. Great arial photo.

Hi Rinie,
Very nice nightshot ! I like all these little yellow light and the amazing sky !
Great !
Christophe

Wow Rinie ! This is spectacular : Gold streaming thru the city veins ! The sky also was with you. Bert's view is great as well but in a very different softer way.

Hi Rinie,

What a nice nightshot picture...
Colors are very nice (specially the yellow/gold ones...).
I'll have to come to Rotterdam.

Regards.

Yves

Hi Rinie. This looked under-exposed in the thumbnail but when opened full screen I can see that it is just about right. The backlit clouds which are nice and sharp are what really makes your image stand out from similar shots like this. Cheers . . . David

Hi Rinie.
Amazing landascape, perfect contrast and lights.
Best regards

The city & sky are incredible on this shot, you timed the exposition perfectly to get the most out of both!
The fluidity of the boulevard, the nightligths reflecting on the water, and the sky still lighted for the perfect moment.
