Photographer's Note
The Volvo Ocean race visited Rotterdam the last days, and so the big money entered the city. For instance, my bank (former bank because of this) sponsored this race with 11 million Euro (13 million US dollar). With this money they could have provided medical care for all sick children in South Africa, I guess, but that's less attractive than big business men. (Sorry, still angry at that bank).
Anyway, there were all kinds of festivities in Rotterdam and one of them was a show of DJ Tiesto (the world's leading DJ, here's a link to his version of Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings)Saturday night on the river Maas. And living on the Noorder island gives us the opportunity to watch it all closely. The speakers were not aimed at our direction, which I'm grateful for, but the lightshow that could be seen from under the Erasmus bridge was sometimes beautiful.
My friends and I (and the boats) take in our positions at the top of the island, have a wonderful meal, and wonderful wine (too much!) and enjoy any kind of show that takes place on the river. And during the year it usually means a firework show at least twice.
Norbert, Didier and Jack should be able to recognize their hotel.
In workshop 1 and in workshop 2 there's a different view on the bridge.

Hi Rinie, yet another interesting perspective onthe bridge. Really amazing light here, sounds like a great event.

Hi Rinie - yes indeed I'm recognizing it ;) Interesting shot from this event, where the red illuminations create a good mood but what I like even more are the moving and "wavy" traces of differently-colored lighs on the river. Good use of the Erasmusbrug to structure the framing and give some rhythmic graphical elements at the top.

Hey Rinie, I think I wriote a comment on your flickr account about a similar shot today. Ill repeat myself, although with more words because a flckr comment wouldnt be acceptable here:) Super light. Its so intense here Rinie, the bridge seems to be on fire. 11 seond exposure was a nice way to go, not really for the streaks that it created but for how it burnt the red on the buildings. Did you notice how perfectly sharp the people are on the bridge? Were they in a coma?:)

Girl, even with wine and caipirinha you did VERY good!
I saw your image in the middle of the night (even Richard, the early bird, havenŽt commentend on it by then!), and I was caught by the incredible game blue x red.
You really know how to give this bridge a mood.
why so few people on the bridge?

there is something very moving in this shot! there is such a good dynamic of colors, of shapes, of movements! I love it! I also like the contrasts between the top part of the photo with those straight lines and the bottom part with the colors, the lights, the living movements.. I posted something special today in honor of my dutch friends!:-)

Very "gestural", Rinie, and red with your anger still present, which is good. I also share it fullheartedly at the insane spending ideas that Western businesses decide upon while a larger chunk of the globe is yearning for a crumb to find.
I love the light here a lot, but even more than that, the sense of craze that animates the shot; the bridge is tilting to the left, the red buildings to the right, the city seems to be on fire and the motions of the cars' flickers are essential "gestures" in the foreground. Stupendous and fresh!
And I have to say I also L O V E the WS posts, both of them, exquisite, Rinie!

A very interesting night shot, Rinie. The huge area of red is very attractive, and so is the motio blurred boats. The frame is very busy, and it very nice to explore more thinks in the darkness.

Hello Rinie,
Well to be honest, my fist though when I looked at the photo was " damned, 503 is cut by the bridge!" ;o)))
A nice view, even if I personally prefer WS01.
Best regards,
Didier

The red depicts your anger, and so it should, perfectly true what you say.
Looking at it another way - Rinie and DJ Tiesto would not be words that I thoguht I would use in one sentence:) The energy is vibrant here, the movement of the boats and lights--again the red on fire, great night shot, seems like a great night!

I really like this one Rinie and applaud your willingness to experiment. Obviously I like the structural elements of the bridge with all those delicious diagonals, especially the red reflected off the bottom of the bridge. The red lights are quite exciting, fitting for the event you describe. No doubt your wonderful bridge deserves all the attention you give it. It is beautiful. Fine work here, even if the extravagance of the occasion leaves a sour feeling for you. As your comment suggests, priorities can easily be messed up. My guess is that the investments made by corporations operating in Rotterdam contribute significantly in the vitality of the place. I hope they're investing some their wealth in more socially conscious ways.

Hola Dear: IŽm very proud of you concerning your bank. IŽll do the same thing. About the photo: I love this red light, but also the sense of speed providing by the lights, and boats in the bottom part of the compo. I love the night mood. Take care Rinie.

Hi Rinie
Thanks for the music to come with the great shot of your favorite motif :-)
I like the photos very much - a fine reminder of the weekend in May - Yes I also have some bad feelings about banks - can fully relate to your note.

Yo Rinie, bedankt dat je dit geregistreerd heb - en wat een heerlijk blauw-rood contrast met een feestlijke melee van motion blur op de Maas. Moet een geweldige avond geweest zijn! Goed weekend!
