The second 'official' activity of the TE-meeting in Rotterdam was a visit to Delfshaven. This neighbourhood of the city of Rotterdam is one of the few historic areas of the city and used to be the port of the city of Delft, which lies about 12km to the north of Rotterdam.

One of the little houses used to be the home of the Porters Guild, where porters looking for work gathered when a trade ship came sailing in. Nowadays a tin workshop is located in this house. When we arrived, there wasn't any tin casting activity, but our guide asked the man in the workshop to take place on his chair and do a little bit of tin casting. Well, he made the impression that had already done it for hours and that he was just having a break, because he wasn't very enthousiastic about the idea. But in the end he did it nevertheless.

For more information: visit the website of Delfshaven.

Oh great idea for this scene. Much more intereting to concentrate on his results, than him actually doing it, like this.

Hi Michael!
When I was young...??,my mom read me story about lead soldier without one leg...
When I see this photo,I remember the fairytale.
Beautiful idea and composition.Bravo!

Good result, Michael, I guess that this was one of the best ways to get a photo inside the tin casting workshop - focusing on the foreground soldiers and having the working guy in the bokeh zone. Nice rendition of the interior light, well worth bumping up the ISO on this one.

Hoi Michael,

Wat een mooie foto van deze kleine beeldjes, en een goede samenvatting van deze meeting onder TE leden, het idee is opzich al goed en zeker wanneer men de achtergrond in blur neemt!
Mooi werk hier,
John

Hi Michael,
I like the idea and the square format for this one.
Still, there's lots of grain left (a wee too much 4 my taste) and the figurines doesn't seem to be perfectly in focus, even with ISO 800?
What do you think?
Cheers,
Robi

A picture which was hard to do due the lack of light! You succeeded to have a good sharpness and I like also the backgroud with the silver worker. Prachtig gedaan!

Hi Michael

A good shot you present here - in fact you beat mine since you got the best focus on the soilders and with the worker in the best composition - thanks for sharing - my compliment for this.

Jeppe

Hi Michael,
I think this lovely picture of the "tinnen soldaatjes" is the right place for a WS with a special reflection of Oochappan looking at all this glittering.
groet Rob

A very short DOF lift only a few tin soldiers correctly sharp out inspite of your slow speed to put the tin worker beautifull totally OOF.
A fine idea technical played on the edge of the capacity of the camera.
Greetings
Henk

Hi Micheal, a nice interior one with an appeealing tonality and DoF. I tried one myself but it failed because IS can stabilize 1,5 sec exposures ;-). I like the contrast between the slim figuerettes and the big reluctant craftman in the BG too.
Nice one.
Have a fine weekend,
Bert

Great use of DOF Michael, and availbel light.

I love the guy in the bokeh ---- no I just love bokeh:) Do you know i didnt even see this guy.
