Photographer’s Note

Castle Ruurlo was build in the 16th and 17th century
in different architecture styles .It’s surrounded by a water ditch and a beautiful park.
Since 1984,after a complete restoration, the castle is used as a town hall.

Hi Hermann, wonderful shot. the long shadows and the light so strong on the statue are fantastic as your POV to have a large view on the garden with that beautiful facade at the end.

stunning side lighting and good use of the foreground ornamentation..it does block to some extent the house frontage
slightly different pov to the right could have made a difference and balanced the dark tree edge...

The light and shadows are the stars here Hermann. Looking at the drama of the sky (brought out so well by the grad)it was amazing you had this light behind you. Good shot.

Bonjour mon ami Hermann,
C'est le genre de photo que j'apprécie particulièrement avec ce ciel qui se voudrait cauchemardesque et ce soleil qui perce avec bonheur faisant naître des ombres qui n'en finissent plus. L'architecture est superbe, un endroit où il doit faire bon s'arrêter.

hello hermann. very difficult shot, because of the light conditions. I just think that the statue got a bit over exposed. love the point of view. the dark sky on the back and the sun in the garden adds the special mood. very nice building. tfs, gabriel

Een mooie combinatie met schaduwen en licht, u vergroot uw perspectief met de lange herfst schaduwen, de gevallen bladeren zijn een suiker op de taart, het kasteel tegen de dreigende hemel is zeer mooi gefotografeerd.

Hi Hermann, You have well made use of the light in this picture to have a nice highlight to the gate of the house, to the statues. Interesting contrast of the sunny light with the stormy sky. Good PoV and nice depth.

The special light and diagonal shadows cast by it makes a remarkable photo from what otherwise might come across as a bit "ordinary", Hermann (I use that technique a lot, too, lol). Excellent mood with the interplay of lit and dark areas, and a delightful and inviting view on this park where the absence of obvious modern elements contributes to a timeless feel.

Hoi Hermann, great light ('vals licht') here! Together with the dark sky it really dramatizes this remarkable old town hall. The play with off-set symmetry due to the inclusion of the statue is very nice and I also very much like the things this inclusion does for the perspective and conceptual integration of this pic. Very very good!

Hi Hermann,
You found here quite an inspiring place allowing to compose photos with superb light contrasts and dramatism, this one is no exception and the eclatant white of the statue flashes against the shades and dark clouds. Composition wise it could have been interesting to shoot from a position more to the left aiming right to detach the statue over the dark tree rather than over the castle, it could have introduced more balance between the castle & statue, I don't know if it would have worked this well in terms of light... anyway, just an idea.

Your picture has excellent exposure which is well delivered with the help of the graduated grey. A nice technique and a good capture with this warm light. Great long shadows too.

Bonjour Hermann,
seul petit défaut, mais tout petit, la surexposition de ce socle de la statue en premier plan, sinon, j'apprécie vraiment les lumières et les couleurs dans cette photo dans laquelle tu as su capter un ciel tout en nuances et un vert parfait pour la pelouse en premier plan.
Beaucoup de détails aussi sue les façades du chateau.
Le cadrage est bien étudié.

Hi Hermann, I must agree with the comment stated already before that the light on the statue (especially the foot) is a little too bright. Otherwise it is a wonderful shot and I like the play with shadow and light on the castle wall a lot. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Hermann, you have great contrast hear. The shadows and light on the front of the building and the bright foreground against the dark storm clouds. It may be a motionless scene yet it is still full of energy.
