Photographer’s Note
The Swaen on the dyke of Nieuw Beijerland in South Holland. A round stone corn mill build in 1703.
Here is the the first reworked picture of serie of 12.
I have got excelent usefull critiques and the remark that it all was to small. Specially Torben gave me suggestions which I tried to use.
He remarked: "The light is very bold and the composition looks nice and clear but perhaps the light is a bit too much, at least in this small presentation."
Well I changed the levels and here it is again.
I you like you can have a look at the origional in the workshop.
The origional 12 small ones you can see here

Hello Hendrik,
I really like the light, clarity and colours in this shot. It's taken from a very good vantage point to show the windmill, bridge, fence and sky which all sit perfectly together to make a marvellous composition. Well done. Best wishes, Vicky

Dag Hendrik,
Zeer mooi lanschap, met een zo typische zware hemel. Wat zijn die molens toch mooi.
Persoonlijk vind ik de grijze boord een beetje zwaar, maar het is maar een eigen mening en doet niets af van de schoonheid.

Fantastic shot, Hendrik.
Very well framed. I like the colors and the shadows.
The clouds give much beauty to this beautiful landscape.

Hi Hendrik,
Always lovely these windmill photos, and this one is no exception, the composition is top notch ib building the perspective to the well placed subject, I love the light on the scene and the dramatic dimension added by the clouds and the way the light plays on them. I'm just a bit surprised by the very green aspect of this view as in autumn I'd have expected some warmer hues, no a problem at all as being surprised is part of the TE enjoyment.
Thanks and have a nice week end,
Jean-Yves

Lovely shot! It's the sky that makes the picture for me (personally), and it gives a terrific shadow on the windmill- well done!

The clouds and the canal draw a bundle of dominating lines across the frame from the upper left corner. These lines are intersected by two major objects in the scene, strongest by the vertical mill by also significantly y the horizontal little bridge.
These two objects forms an orthogonal dark L-shape in the frame contrasting the very luminous diagonal shapes of sky, clouds and grass, they are even connected by the shadow of the mill.
The contrast in this scene is of course very strong and some of the highlights are burnt but I don't consider that a big problem, the patch of pure white in the upper left corner actually helps give the feeling of bright light here.
What I do have problems with is the green colour of the grass, it is so oversaturated that it almost looks like a caricature of postcard style, I don't know if the camera or you did this postprocessing but I find it disturbing I would prefer subtler hues of green.
So, after riding the high horse of image analysis for a while, let me step down and just say that it is a beautiful and enjoyable scene.

Hendrik,
Ton pov est original. La courbe de la route se marie très bien avec le mouvement imaginé des ailes du moulin. La percée de lumière illumine un peu le moulin mais ajoute un éclairage bien particulier à la pelouse. Merci !

Hello Hendrik,
What a marvelous improvement. The colors really "pop" now, and there is much more detail (of the buildings, clouds, grass, all) shown. Very nice re-work, indeed!

Hi Hendrik,
Very nice picture indeed. The windmill is well placed, I like the green of the grass too it makes it very fresh. The clouds are fascinating too, cumuluses, strato-cumuluses and some alto-stratuses as I can distinguish. Great composition of yours even thou the clouds in the upper left corner form a white spot.
Good composition, two big points for that.
I am only not sure about this frame.
Well done, thank you for sharing,
Kind regards
Michal

Nice picture, but it feels a little overdone. The grass is almost neon like and the grass outside the fence looks like it's sharpened enough to be almost metallic. I think this increased saturation may also have made the clouds lose some of it's natural detail. The trees are also looking hard, not sure if it is shadows or sharpening.
That is just my feelings of it, but the picture brought me in enough that I wanted to give the original picture a try in PS. I worked from the original posted in a workshop. I hope you like the result. The grass is very hard to control in this image and some areas are very light while others are a bit dark, so controlling the details while making it look natural when PP is done is a challenge.
