Photographer’s Note

The Lilliputians are celebrating Gulliver's departure from their island with a big parade around town. Little did they know that around the corner, Gulliver is back, ready to mow them down.

This picture was taken with a Kodak disposable camera at Madurodam, Holland's smallest city where significant structures of the Netherlands are built in miniature. For example, the canal houses of Amsterdam, the Alkmaar cheese market and parts of the Delta Works are all replicated in minute detail on a 1:25 scale. You can see airplanes on the new Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and trains on the world's largest miniature railway. There's even a nude beach replicated. Each year a few new buildings and several objects are added to the city, plus some human figures and other small items.

I only had an afternoon free for sightseeing when I was at The Hauge so I thought this place was the best place to see the whole of the Netherlands. It was worth it. See the Netherlands in miniature!

Tech: This was a small part of a 4" x 5" picture that I had to blow up in the scanner so there's a little bit of blurring. Scanned at 600 dpi, resized then autocolor, curves to darken a little bit, added the frame and sharpened.
