Sint Jan, Den Bosch
Last week I showed you de Sint Jan in Maastricht, today I show you another Sint Jan, but this time in the city of Den Bosch in Noord-Brabant.
Den Bosch or more official called 's Hertogenbosch (means literally The Woods of the Duke) is the capital of the province of Noord-Brabant. It is located 80km south-east of Amsterdam and has about 135,000 citizens.
Henrik I, Duke of Brabant granted Den Bosch city rights in 1185.
The most famous landmark of Den Bosch is de Sint Janskathedraal (Saint John's Cathedral), also very well known in the rest of The Netherlands (so I was very surprised I couldn't find other pictures of it on TE). De Sint Jan dates from around 1220 and was in those days a Romanesque church. The present Gothic church was completed in 1525. The tower was destroyed in 1584 an 1830 in a fire. From 1858 to 1985 the cathedral has been under renovation almost permanently.
I took this picture today, when it was "real Dutch weather", as we call it: clouds, some sun and some rain.
Hope you like it!

Hi Lars,
In theory, if two buildings are very tall and you look at their tops in between, you should see the tops of the two buildings meet each other, or almost meet each other in some point. Some times, the phenomenon is referenced to perspective effect. We are seeing the perspective effect to the tall buildings in this picture since you are close to the building and the buildings are sufficient tall enough to see the effect. A very special angle to see the buildings and we have a clear view of them. I like this composition very much.
A picture with clarity, details, and nice contrast. The trees and the flowers on the trees made an excellent frame to this beautiful photo. Well done.

Hej Lars

Hello Lars. I like your comment about "real Dutch weather". I also like the contrast between the roof and the white cloud. It was a good idea in including the bushes on the right side because they help lead our eyes into the shot. Nice one Lars!

Dag Lars,
Prachtig werk Lars!
John.

Hi Lars,
A beautiful architecture you have shown here and I find it very interesting. The way you divide the space is also interesting - the sky, the building and the trees. Each having its own role in making this scene beautiful. Nicely seen! Regards and a nice day.

bonjour Lars.

Magnus

Nice church, Lars. like the composition with trees in foreground and soft colours. I'd prefer corrrected perspective as in Kent's workshop.
Thanks for sharing,
Marek

Cher Lars,

Hi Lars!
This cathedral looks really impressive. Nice colors and sharpness. Composition is good but you must correct the perspective.
Thanks for note.

A moody compo with the blooming trees in front of the impressive Sint Jan and above a nice blue sky!
I like the calm atmosphere here.

Beautiful architecture. Very well composed with great colors and sharpness. Love the contrast with the green trees in the foreground. A little bit tilted toward the right otherwise a perfect shot.
Congratulation Lars.

Goed werk!
Groeten en een fijn Pinksterweekend! Bert.

Hi Lars,
very kind of you to present us with Sint Jan in Den Bosch.
I can see you had problem with light due to "real Dutch weather" that we experience quite often here in NE England. Therefore you may consider using an UV filter that brings colours out when is overcast; also, shooting at lower speed may help.
Twisted perspective is almost impossible to control, especially when using wide-lens. But this can be overcome quite easily in PS, i.e.
In your photos I'm not concerned about the side verticals leaning towards the centre, but the crooked view visible in roof of the middle part being not leveled.
Hope you don't mind me doing a little workshop.
Regards,
Robi

This is a very great place and the compositions shows this construction in a Majestuous way.
I like this very rich architecture and you framed it very well

Bonjour Lars
Hello Lars
I appreciate much your comment which is very interesting. However the sky influenced the cell of your camera who has under-exposed the subject, its normal in photograph; the solution was to over-expose slightly to compensate for the variation of luminosity; I carried out a WS with a correction of perspective.

Olá Lars, I'm not going to say nothing about technic things here, since this is a very old post and besides, I found 3 diferent members giving a try with a WS to improve the image.
Everything else is great. The church is quite impressive and the details on the right are especially attractive. The cloudy sky is nice even with so much white and the trees in FG make a good framing.
regards,
ricardo
