Photographer’s Note
Wrong, Tulips are originally coming from Turkey. Most people associate tulips with Holland, "tulips from Amsterdam" as the song goes, But even before a European envoy found them in the ornamental garden of a Turkish sultan, they were popular with the Indian shahs. They were originally native to Turkey, Iran, Syria and parts of Asia and have been cultivated in Europe since the 16th century.
It was the Dutch who began to breed them in 1593. The first tulip bulb was planted by the Dutch botanist Carolus Clusius, he was the director of the Holy Roman emperor's garden in Vienna (1573–87), in the Hortus Botanicus of Leiden and by 1633 the Dutch upper classes had been gripped by Tulip mania. Bulb merchants were earning the equivalent of $56.000 a month by trading in futures. Bulbs were changing hands for up to $750 the equivalent of $750.000 today, while they were still in the ground and before the buyer had even seen it in flower!

Excellent depth of field. Very lively and beautiful. I think you have done a great job with the contrast, it has come out really outstanding. Also, I really enjoyed reading your note. I didn't know that.
cheers,

Beautiful shot. The details of the tulip in the foreground are perfect. I love the colours too. The reds and greens and so rich. Would have maybe just cropped out the bit of tulip on the left and smudged out one little black spot on one of the others. Very well done.

Hallo Hans,
Gelukkig staat de opnamedatum bij de foto, want bij mijn weten is het hier nog veel te vroeg voor tulpen van de koude grond. Ik begon al aan mezelf te twijfelen. Mooie foto met een uitstekende scherpte-diepte.
groet Rob

Hans, these flowers look so red and attractive that I looked closer to see if they were plastic. A nice POF and TFS.

I like the way that you focused on the tulip in the middle, the sharpness and the colors of this picture are amazing, and I love this dutch tulips theme, even knowing that they aren't originally from Holland!! BTW your note is very interesting!
