Photographer’s Note
After three pictures from Rotterdam, here's Amsterdam again. I took this picture last week when I walked from the Central Station to NEMO.
The canal you can see here is de Gelderse Kade, seen from de Prins Hendrik Kade. The tower you can see is the tower of the Zuiderkerk (Southern Church). This church was designed by Hendrik de Keyser and built between 1603-1614.
The two little towers right of the Zuiderkerk are of de Waag (weighing house) of Amsterdam on the Nieuwmarkt (New Market). This building was built in 1488 as a citygate, the Sint Antoniespoort. In 1618, the building became a weighing house. After that, the building has had many different functions, now there's a restaurant in the building.
I took this picture against the sun, so the colours were quite dark, that's one of the reasons I decided to make a B&W of it. I cropped the picture a bit as well.
Hope you like it!

Nice picture, Lars. Some part are a bit too dark, but the black and white is a good solution.

Good experiment with a difficult, but interesting picture. It’s a realistic option to make a B&W shot of it. In the workshop I’ll give you another solution of this picture.

A good try in B&W,Lars.
The contrasts are a bit to high and bring a loss of details in the darker parts but overall a fine composition with the bikes in the foreground, the Gracht in the midground, and the church(Is it de Oudekerk?)
in the background.
Yes your capture reminds me of the famous Amsterdam Photos frome Cas Oorthuis.

Glad to see you "Tue". This is possible a first try to B&W conversion photo. Your left side perspective is very interesting and fine in this scenery. Generally I don't like "B&W" posts, because I'm not a "daltonic" person :)), but in this case and others excepcionally I like. The difference makes the rule!!!.

Lars,
Good to be back in Amsterdam again. This is a nice picture and I also like Robs work with it - and could not keep my fingers from it either.
Check the WS, and tell me what you think.
Regards,
MvS

Bonsoir Lars,
Bien vu.

Nice compo and nice that you made it black and white, for that more classic feel. nice with the church tower in the back.

Hej Lars,
Back to Amsterdam with a typical view. Another good POV of a canal, with the sight of the tower in the back and the mixed of bykes in foreground making a nice framing. I love the brithness of the water in the canal and the way it contrasts with the dark areas around. Good choice of the B&W and also interesting options in ws. The only thing that disturbs me a bit is that white cabin, but I remember those in most photos I took when I was there...Thanks a lot for sharing,
Ricardo
p.s.- I also use the Paint Shop Pro (8). Which tool do you use to clean the image?

Hi Tue
i think i actually tried to take this shot at one time, with the bicicles and the classic canal. i like your idea with converting to B+W, but it is maybe a little too dark, so a lot of details are lost.
Nice effort
Harry
