The main thing I wanted to see in Rotterdam were the cube houses. I have already seen them in some photos in TE and found them very original. I was very happy that Bert (bertolucci) went there with me. And they are really great! But how one can live in the house when the floors are not flat??? It is somehow resolved.
Kubuswoningen, or cube houses, are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of "living as an urban roof": high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. The houses in Rotterdam are located on Overblaak Street, and beside the Blaak Subway Station. There are 38 small cubes and two so called 'super-cubes', all attached to each other.
As residents are disturbed so often by curious passers-by, one owner decided to open a "show cube", which is furnished as a normal house, and is making a living out of offering tours to visitors.
The living room of the "show cube" in Rotterdam.
The houses contain three floors:
ground floor entrance
first floor with living room and open kitchen
second floor with two bedrooms and bathroom
top floor which is sometimes used as a small garden
The walls and windows are angled at 54.7 degrees. The total area of the apartment is around 100 square meters, but around a quarter of the space is unusable because of the walls that are under the angled ceilings.

Nice yellow cubes, red railing to the stairs and a long perspective leading to the wandering couple.

wow, a beautiful photo of some beautiful architecture.
and you told me you don't like taking photo's of architecture!!! haha!
as you mentioned, this subject is very unique - if i ever travel to Holland, i'll make sure this is on my list.
A very clever crop, with the many many triangles and geometric shapes being the focal points.

Ciao cara IF
Wow, I never knew of these Cube Houses. I love the light and the beautiful graphism you captured. The tiny people included in the scene add interest and also a great sense of scale.
Thanks for sharing, un abbraccio

yep, I also remember seeing a few pictures of this place on TE. Looks like a photographer's dream! Color and shape! I like what you did here with the composition, not going fully abstract and using the line to build something interesting. T'was also a good idea to add the two characters in the background.
Did you take others pictures from this place? I guess you did, right?

What a fascinating place and what fascinating houses! I looked at your Wikipedia link too as well as reading your note - I'd love to see these houses but I don't think I'd like to live in one - it must be very strange and probably pretty inconvenient too.
But you have caught a wonderful angle and chosen a perfect viewpoint for this picture - a much better photograph than any of those on the Wikipedia page - and have achieved a very fine composotion. The lines all complement each other perfectly and I think that red railing on the foreground staircase really holds the composition all together.
Perfect exposure in difficult circumstances, lovely colours and exquisite detail and sharpness.
P.S. Why not add this picture to the Wikipedia page? It's quite easy to do!

A fascinating place & a fine picture of these cube houses. Thanks to your link I saw the interiors of the innovative houses for the first time. I think with the shortage of living space this type of designs for living purpose would be a luxury, even though aesthetically & artistically they may be pleasing. You had a good perspective & tunnel effect here & exposure well achieved.

Missed this one. Unusual cubism designs in the architecture with attractive warm golden orange colors, & the people adding scale. Good sharpness & nice repetition of pattern shapes & designs. The diagonal red stairs add dynamism. Tfs!
