Photographer’s Note

This is another picture from Rotterdam after the Erasmusbrug. This city has a lot of high office buildings and is therefore called "Manhattan aan de Maas" ("Manhattan-upon-Meuse", de Maas (Meuse) is the river through Rotterdam).

The reason for all those modern buildings and skyscrapers in Rotterdam is quite sad. On May 14, 1940 the centre was bombed by the nazi's, so it had to be rebuilt after the war completely.

On this picture you can see is the tallest office building in the Netherlands, which is called the "Delftse Poort". A large Dutch insurance company, Nationale Nederlanden owns it. The largest tower which you can see here is 151 meter high and has 41 floors, the other one, you can see a part of it on the left is 93 meter high. The building is situated next to Rotterdam Central Station, was designed by Abe Bonnema and was completed in 1992.

I cropped this picture a bit and sharpened it.
Hope you like it!
