Photographer’s Note

This is NEMO, a museum in Amsterdam.
It's a nice example of the Dutch lack of space, cos this museum was built on top of the entrance of the IJ-tunnel in Amsterdam. We live with more than 16 million people on about 41,500m2, so we have to be creative with the space we have.

The tunnel crosses het IJ, a lake which splits Amsterdam. The tunnel was opened in 1968 by Queen Juliana.
The museum was built in 1997 and designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano. The building looks like a ship, also because it's in het IJ, but that wasn't the intention of the architect. He wanted the museum looks like the entrance of the tunnel mirrored to the ground.
NEMO is a science-museum and very popular by kids, cos there's a lot to do in the museum. NEMO is an abbrevation of New Metropolis, which was the first name of the museum. They changed the name in 2000 after financial problems.

I think it's a pity there are so many traffic signs in the way, but on the other side: they're part of the tunnel.
I used the railing of the fly-over as a tripod and I didn't change much, only the contrast and colours a bit.
Hope you like it!
