Island of St. Martin is the smallest inhabited sea island divided between two nations, Netherlands Antilles and France. This peaceful frontier dates back to 1648. On the eastern shore of the island there's however a border dispute going on. On the Oyster Pond area the border follows the northern (left) shoreline, according to Dutch opinion. The French interepretation is that the border goes through the centerline of the bay.
And the Captain Oliver's Restaurant and Marina is build above water, leaving the place under dispute. Owner of the place has paid taxes to Netherlands Antilles ever since the place was opened in the 1980's and naturally is not happy about the idea of the place becoming French territory.

Funny story well presented. It seems like a quiet bay made for boat tourists, but the story was really interesting.

I can't answer your question, but I like the photo, with its busy but pleasing composition and excellent light. I love to see an array of yachts' masts. The palm fronds make a great foreground feature. For a disputed area it seems very peaceful, and a great place to have a holiday break. Bit of a change from frozen Finland shots.

This looks indeed like a picture from paradise! I have no opinion on the dispute about the border, I can only see that this is a very well taken photo with excellent colours!

Who cares about borders it's all (tropical) Schengen here, the only problem being between the tax administrations trying to collect a maximum of money, and the french are not the less offensive at this game, this is one of the reasons why I escaped to CH ;-)
Have a nice day jY
