Photographer’s Note

in 1042 Groot-Ammers is mentioned for the first time in history. The lords of Liesvelt built their castle around that time as one of the largest and strongest castles of the Netherlands. The surroundings of the castle, including Groot-Ammers, stood under the influence of these lords.
Willem Frederik of Nassau bought the barony of Liesvelt in 1636.
In modern times the barony of Liesvelt became the municipality of Groot-Ammers. In 1986 Groot-Ammers and bordering municipalities aggregated to form the municipality of Liesveld.

yes my friends. The weather was good and there was no wind at all. So I had to made some shots with my new camera. I hope you like it.

A fine composition with a long deep perspective down the quiet canal. The windmill is well paced and makes a pleasing juxtaposition with the ones in the far distance. The two men in the boat bring a touch of vitality. A beautiful reflection offered by the green mill.

Hi Jaap, so little wind - not good for windmills - but very good for Jaap with his new toy. That 5DII is doing some great work. I love that stillness on the water but for the ripples of the boat. Whenever I'm stressed at work, looking at your photos always makes me feel peaceful. I like the line of windmills down the river bank too. It really is idyllic. Its simplicity is its highlight! It truly gives me some feelings of peace, calm and tranquility!
Sharpness, exposure, dof and colors are excellent!
The viewpoint couldn't be better and the composition is quite effective, with very attractive visual results! I love the boat and the "waves" it leaves behind it! I love thre reflections on the water surface! I love seeing that dutch icon so nicely placed in the frame: the windmill!

Hallo, Jaap. Je hebt hier een uitstekend perspectief met het kanaal dat een mooie lijn trekt door de hele foto. De verschillende elementen zijn zeer goed geplaatst in de compositie: de boot op de voorgrond om diepte te creëren, de molen aan de rechterkant en dan ontdekken we andere elementen van het landschap als we verder op deze lijn kijken. Hi Jaap, When there is no wind, the water is still giving nice attractive reflections but the mills are not working. Splendid view, typical Dutch - flat like on the table. very interesting architecture of this windmill.

J'aime l'effet miroir de l'eau calme, j'aime également le sillage qui perturbe juste ce qu'il faut la sérénité de l'eau. Le moulin et la rive sont un plus pour cette composition très réussie.

Yes, the day does look beautiful, not a cloud in the sky and the water looks so calm. I like the dee[ blue canal water leading us into the shot with some good perspective and the man in the boat adds good life to the image. A wonderful dutchscape with the windmill included.

The combination of this blue sky and the incredibly clear canal is stunning, and yet it's those waves behind the boat that fascinate me the most. As well as he reflection of the slightly peculiar windmill.

Wow a 5-D, we should see some really fine shots from this camera.
Your composition is great here with the great reflection adding depth and balance for the scene. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness and DOF. The canal leads the eye through the shot nicely and the boat adds a sense of life and direction fo the shot.

"No wind" is not my idea of Nederland, especially my last days there, in the windy 'Kop van Noord-Holland'!
But water, yes. Roughly half of this picture is water. That's Nederland!
