Photographer’s Note

The Oudenbosch Basilica is a Roman Catholic basilica in the Dutch village of Oudenbosch. It was built under the initiative of father Willem Hellemons who was parish priest between 1842 and 1884. It was modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and designed by architect Dr. P. Cuijpers. Construction began in 1865 but was not fully completed until 1982. The basilica is unique in the region in that it is quite large with classical Italian appearance that is atypical for most of northern Europe, let alone a small village in North Brabant.

the famous roman style basilica of H.H. Agatha & Barbara, the Arboretum botanical gardens, the Dutch Zouavenmuseum and the St. Louis chapel. Across the street is the monumental Dutch Reformed church, dating from 1819 and the vicary adjacent to it, the oldest monument in Oudenbosch, dating from 1562. The countryside is suitable for hiking and cycling though the woods and agricultural landscape.
Oudenbosch
From that time the villages developed as we still know them nowadays. Each village has its own identity and its own history. In Oudenbosch for instance, the influence of Roman Catholic life can still be felt and tasted. Most important witness, of course, is the Basiliek, which dominates the landscape. This basilica was built between 1865 and 1892. The initiative to build this basilica was taken by Father Hellemons, who was fascinated by the buildings of the Vatican. He managed to persuade over 3,000 Oudenbosch citizens to participate in this project and he built his Basilica. But even before that time religion played an important role. For it were the monks of St. Bernard who made the area so successful with their peat-cutting and who had such a strong bond with the area. One of the first buildings in the area was a chapel, which was built around 1297. In the 19th century Oudenbosch increasingly developed into a (religious) centre of education. Thousands of boys and girls went to boarding school at Oudenbosch and were educated by the brothers of St. Louis and by the nuns of St. Anna

Hoi Jaap,
Ik vind dit een hele mooie, misschien nog wel mooier dan sommige van je buitenfoto's. Zeker goed om een beetje af te wisselen.
De details zijn goed zichtbaar en kleurrijk tot achter in de baseliek. Je compo is een beetje asymmetrisch. Ik weet niet of dat bewust is gedaan of niet vanwege het beeld dat daar staat.
De banken zijn mooi natuurlijk van kleur en het lijkt erop dat je een flitser hebt gebruikt. Ook de kleuren van de eerste pilaren zijn prima. Daarachter wordt het geheel iets grijzer, waarschijnlijk doordat de flitser daar geen berijk heeft of dat je de schaduwen een beetje lichter gemaakt hebt.
Al met al toch prachtig werk.

A great capture inside this basilica, with a good result in the exposure in spite of the difficult light.
A low POV select well that has offered you a deep and elegant perspective, in a framing lightly asymmetric, with the people who gives reference of the dimensions of these architecture and adds dynamism to the scene.

Hallo, Jaap. Iets verschillends van jou, maar de kwaliteit blijft dezelfde. Het perspectief is hier zeer goed met de rijen banken die naar de achtergrond leiden. Het licht is zeer goed en ik vind het contrast tussen de kleuren zeer geslaagd.

This is a different subject from you but you manage it with the same skill that you give to your landscapes. Great use of the perspective of the aisle, which also has some attractive reflections. The sharpness and clarity is top notch from the first pew to the altar at the other end.

i openned lot of photos from my favorites at the same time, and looked the photo without reading the title or the name, and i recognize your style even if it is not your favorite subject, how? first it is straightly framed, but the detail which made it obvious is the filter used in the top to reduce the highlight in the shadows, the same you used for some photos in the woods... the lighting in the basilica is well managed, with nice colors, this shot do justice to the beauty of the place

Wat ik schitterend vind is de koepel dat u eveneens in beeld brengt.
