Photographer’s Note

A heath or heathland is a shrubland habitat found on mainly infertile acidic soils, characterised by open, low growing woody vegetation, often dominated by plants of the Ericaceae. It is similar to moorland, but is generally warmer and drier.
Heaths are widespread worldwide. They form extensive and highly diverse communities across Australia in humid and sub-humid areas. Fire regimes with recurring burning are required for the maintenance of the heathlands. Even more diverse though less widespread heath communities occur in Southern Africa. Extensive heath communities can also be found in California, New Caledonia, central Chile and along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to these extensive heath areas, the vegetation type is also found in scattered locations across all continents, except Antarctica.

this was really a fantastic place, the blossom was in the heath. It's fantastic to be there. I hope you like the shot. It was taken a few days back.

Dit is een hele fraaie foto. De paars-roze heide kleur komt hier heel goed naar voren door zijn massaliteit ervan. Goed perspectief wat wordt versterkt door de positie van de bomen.

Wonderful shot, Jaap. The colors in your photograph are very striking without being overly saturated - the contrast of the pink flowers under the great trees is an added aesthetic. I think you have cleverly chosen to shoot on a path to provide symmetry and a dividing point to lead the eye. Positioning yourself to the left of the path instead of shooting down the middle makes the shot more interesting and attractive. Brilliant sky: the wispy clouds really contribute the the relaxing and lovely feel of the picture. Sharpness and framing are spot on. Well done.

Wat heeft de heide toch een prachtige kleur als ze in bloei staat. Ik vind deze foto bijzonder mooi. Er zit een enorme diepte in met dat pad dat langs de boom helemaal tot aan de horizont door loopt. Het vierkante formaat is ook heel geschikt voor deze opname. Gefeliciteerd

Heather in Holland? I would never have expected that. Wonderful scene with a track road leading the eye into the scene and dividing the scene forcing us to look further and try to discover. I like the tree and its placement since the landscape is so flat.

Heath lands in California? Gosh that is a new one for me. Our climate in California is more like Iberia or Italy and our landscape resembles that rather than a heath like environment.

Excellent image, thank you for sharing.

the heath has always attracted me but since agriculture has suppressed this wonderful vegetation in Schleswig-Holstein, the only way enjoying it is looking at images like this one. browsing through your gallery is a joy ; your landscapes are always superbly shot, manage to stay clear of conventional clichés and this particular one is no exception to this rule.

The bubbly shapes abund and create a great pattern while this dramatically fluffy sky enhances the evocative touch of this field.
