Photographer’s Note

As you see in "Not only Flower Market" and in "Not only coffee", in the Netherlands there is great tolerance towards the so-called soft drugs. This country has a very strong and long tradition of tolerance. Live and let live is almost a national motto, provided that you don't bother your neighbor.
Sexual liberty, namely legal prostitution, is another hallmark of the Netherlands policy of tolerance. The "shop windows" of the prostitutes in Amsterdam (and other cities) are worldwide famous. The women (and some transwomen), in lingerie attire, offer their services displaying themselves on large windows or by the doors of their workplaces. In Amsterdam this is a casual sight in the rather normal district of De Wallen, better known as Red Light District.
Photography is forbidden or highly non-recommended in De Wallen*. Therefore I present here a different place in Amsterdam, where you can see how casual sex-related business is in the Netherlands. This Erotic Shopping Centre is regarded just like any other shop in Reguliersbreestraat (this street is named after the former Regular Monastery). Location in WikiMapia: 52.3666185, 4.8946023.
To compare, see in the workshop the shy windows of a Portuguese sex shop, on the upstairs and farthest corner of a shopping centre.
As this is a Land of Rules, prostitution and brothels are legal when regulated and controled. Street prostitution is illegal in the Netherlands.
* - See a Eric Farge's shot in this district.
