The winged lions of the Dam square
The beautiful lamppost which can be seen on the picture decorates the Dam square. According to me, its beauty and its environment deserve the presentation. Its elegance and its elaboration are worthy close to Royal Palace. In contrast to its turbulent history, the square is now a peaceful place and is home to hundreds of pigeons and tourists resting their tired feet.
The Dam is the very centre and heart of Amsterdam, although there are arguably prettier sights in the city. As an historical site however, it is fascinating and worth taking the time to appreciate. The Dam has seen many historical dramas unfold over the years, and was for example, the reception area for Napoleon and his troops during the 1808 take-over of the city. The impressive history of the square is well documented in the Amsterdam Historical Museum. The Royal Palace (Koninklijk Paleis) which dominates the square, was originally used as the town hall and its classical facade and fine sculptures were intended to glorify the city of Amsterdam and its government.
Dam square, Amsterdam
Just a five-minute walk down the Damrak from Centraal Station takes you into this jam-packed square, jostling with locals and tourists day and night. It was created in the 13th century when a dam was built around the river Amstel to prevent the Zuiderzee sea from swarming the city. During the sixties, the square was renowned for its Dam Square hippies, and the laid back and relaxed character of this densely pigeon populated square lives on.
There are food stalls, restaurants and shops galores, including the trendy Bijenkorf, Magna Plaza, Bonneterie and the Amsterdam Diamond centre. Such is the popularity of Dam Square that you might even have to wait for a seat at one of the many cafés and bars. Whatever the weather, there is always something going on here so expect lots of entertainment. In spring, there may be a carnival on or you can have a go on the colourful Ferris wheel. In the summer months, mimers and other street performers come out to surprise unexpected onlookers. But without doubt, of all the attractions in Dam Square, Royal Palace (Koninklijk Palace) is quite literally the jewel in the crown.

viraggio perfetto su questo particolare con un'ottima definizione.
I ragazzi e i piccioni riempiono bene la scena.

The sepia tone works well here. Superb sharpness, allowing us to explore the intricate & ornate details of the carvings & sculptures in detail. Tfs!

A relatively rare venture for you - black and white. It works perfectly here and gives an interesting retro mood. The detail captured in the lamp post is absolutely superb. I like also the backdrop with the presence of the people (students?) sat on the steps chatting. A fine piece of photographic work. Very well done.

I appreciate the color which you gave to the photograph, because the texture and the smoothnesses of this work are largely embellished. Framing is quite selected and perfect. The serene environment of the background is one more very pleasant and realistic of the scene. Cheer.
Have a nice day
