Photographer’s Note
A shot made a couple of days ago in the Domplein (Cathedral Square) in Utrecht. It was a very cold day, for Holland at least, but the light was good, the characteristic Dutch winter light. The backdrop is a huge poster hanging on the wall of the cathedral and masking the restoration works, and the statue is part of the World War II memorial from 1949.

Hi Alexander
I like the subtle colour contrast between the pale yellow & soft blue. Good sharpness & framing. The neoclassical statue makes a fine focal point. Tfs!

Good to see you back, Alexander.
Beautiful blue tone in the shaded part of the photo, with the sunlight falling gently on the memorial sculpture and the tree. Nice effect achieved with the three vertical objects, tree, statue and lamp, receding in height.
Regards, and best wishes for 2009!

Welcome back to TE Alexander!
It's not often the builders go to the trouble to mask the resoration work and this particular backdrop makes an excellent background for the statue. The sun is picking out the statue while leaving the background in the shade, making a very satisfactory image.

Hello Alexander, glad to see you back!
Beautiful capture of this fine sculpture with very interesting architecture in the background, the "central" composition was the best option in this case, great framing and excellent light managment! Congratulations!
I hope you had a Merry Christmass and I wish you a Happy New Year!

Hi Alexander,
Nice portrait of a statue. Strange choice for your composition with a centered subject... but it works quite well.
Best wishes

Mooi geprofitterd van het optimale zonlicht, Alexander.
De poster op de achtergrond werkt mooi vervreemdend.
Veel plezier in 2009,
Gerrit

Hi Alexander,
This is a nice statue, well lit and over a nice background, possibly I'd have gone for a closer vertical framing.
Best wishes to you for 2009 JY

Hello Alexander, j' like the composition of most rigorous, the prospect for foreground with this statue brings the glance on the wall of the cathedral, the particular luminosity of l' winter gives splendid dyed and a color of most pleasant, the camera angle was not to be simple with found in this recess or the retreat is not always adapted, the environment of catch of sight is almost which intimates, I wish you the best for 2009 ............................Bonjour Alexander,

Privet, Alexander
I like the strong light falling on the statue: emphasizes it's feisty character. I like also, how it constrasts with the bluish (not sure how true the cast is though), calm church fasade in the background. I'm not so sure about the foreground (and title) motive though: that tree, torch, lantern combination. hmm... seems a tad casual to me even though I sense the perspective you noticed. But that might be a very personal thing going on in my mind here: my preference would have been for some play of the strong, aggressive light against the calmness of the background fasade. So, don't mind my mumbling ;)
Happy 2009 to You and Yours!
