Another variation on the feline theme. This photo was taken in the afternoon of the Ascension Day on the outskirts of a sleepy village not far from Leiden. I was delighted by this view: a sleepy cat on a boat, water in the canal, sheep, green grass... What can be more relaxing?
I donīt know if itīs readily noticeable here, but the field just behind the sheep is actually below the water level in the canal! You can see it more clearly if you realize that the white spot in the background to the right of the house is in fact another boat docked in a different canal! The canals go on top of the dikes, and a field like this which is bordered by the dikes and is below the water level is called polder in Holland.

Very funny picture!
The sailing - cat is great!
And the lambs in the back are very attactive!

I really like this shot. You're right, it has a very relaxing feel to it. I think everything is great in this image, except for one thing. The highlights are quite over-exposed and there's no detail at all in the white parts of the boat which are in sunlight, and there's not much detail in the sky. I find that under-exposing to record detail in the highlights works for me. You can always recover detail from the shadows in post processing, but you can never get anything back from those burn out highlights.
Unfortunately at the moment digital sensors just aren't capable of recording the same range of tones in a scene as film is. Even slide film is much better than digital in this regard, but I'm sure this will change as things develop.
Hope this is helpful.

I like this picture.
Nice Dutch landscape. Even the cat is not worrying about land beneath waterlevel.

i appreciate the technical aspect of this image, its all right, or even more than that, but... what this image is all about? is it about the boat, about the cat? , about the canal?, about the sheep? etc?
bit too much in one frame, my friend, i am afraid;
next please :-))

Very well seen and composed, Alex. Excellent DoF is supporting your compo, and shows both the cat and the shaep sharp.
CAts find interesting places for sleep - for example, see this one -

Ah, Alexander! To see this shot on a rainy afternoon is too much for me to take... am soooo sleepy right now too! Wonderful and very sweet shot, a great composition with the sheep... the cat doesn't have to count them... nor do I, now!

A really interesting photo with the cat in the foreground, the sheep behind it and the lonely house between trees in the background. The photo is very well divided and coloured attractive. A picture worth seeing. Greeting, Wolfgang
