Kasteel Duivenvoorde (Castle Duivenvoorde) is in the town of Voorschoten, Zuid-Holland in the Netherlands. It was first mentioned in 1226, making it one of the older castles in Zuid-Holland

The castle is remarkable in that it was never sold; it was inherited by several different noble houses, sometimes through the matrilineal line, something that can be said of very few Dutch castles. For the first five centuries of its history, the castle was owned by one and the same family, namely the Van Duivenvoordes, who gave their name - at that time, van Duvenvoirde - to the castle. Though the castle was named thus, the van Duvenvoirdes properly formed part of the House of Wassenaer, an ancient noble family that has played an important role in Dutch history. Toward the end of the 17th century an owner of Kasteel Duivenvoorde, Johan, retook the name of van Wassenaar, upon which the House of Duivenvoorde became merely another name in the castle’s history.

that was running. We went to Voorschoten and I saw that very dark sky of a shower. We came at that place and I must run for the light. It was a littled bit raining and the sun was still shining. I had luck and took a few shots I hope you like the result.

Dag Jaap,

U ziet dat een donkere en zwaar bewolkte hemel een prachtig decor kan vormen voor een zeer mooi kasteel.
De weerspiegelingen en de hoek hoe u deze heeft genomen is zeer mooi geslaagd.
Ook de herfstkleuren doen hun duit in het zakje, prachtige samenstelling Jaap! Een beauty.

Hello Jaap,
The castle is very beautiful with this pink brick and these windows in white frames(supervisions) but with this lighting and this contrast on the sky, it becomes a real jewel. The reflections in the pond are magnificent also.

Haha, takes a bit of reading to find out what the title is all about! :-) Funny. I was already having a feeling it was about that incredibly dark sky you had there. It is wonderful to see how you captured that last bit of sun. Very nice. Also like the autumn tones captured here! You were surely lucky with the light, and with not ruining your equipment in a big shower.

Hallo Jaap,
Hij is mooi...echt schitterend hoe je die zware dreigende lucht erachter hebt weten vast te leggen. Er zitten mooie donkere contrasten in de foto, zoiets mag ik heel graag zien. Reflectie is buitengewoon en verdient zeker een extra punt.
Hij helt wel iets naar achteren maar dat is eenvoudig te corrigeren.
Tevens zou ik die electriciteitsmast met lijnen nog weghalen, die horen niet in zo'n mooie plaat thuis, maar ook dat is maar even bij gaan.
Verder niets op aan te merken, prima stukje werk.

Hello Jaap,

A very beautiful photograph, a function of perfect timing in the light conditions. Sometimes when it is overcast and dark, a sudden shaft of sunlight breaks through the clouds and illuminates the subject. This happened to me once many years ago while I was visiting the Parthenon, and I went wild, immediately shooting a whole roll of 36 slides.

What an amazing work!! The building seems to just pop out against the dark sky. I'm not sure how you got such a 3 dimensional look; I think it is the excellent detail in this white-trimmed building, the angle of the waterway, & the reflection.

Bonjour Jaap,
les couleurs mais surtout les lumières sont féériques.
C'est le genre d'ambiance que j'aime ne mieux de photographier, quand le ciel se fait menaçant mais que le soleil donne encore beaucoup de lumière.
Difficile de bien tout gérer, mais il en faut plus que cela pour te mettre en difficulté.

Het was het rennen waard!! Echt heel mooi het verlichte kasteel met dat donker grijs achtergrond. De PP werk met kleur saturatie is heel evenwichtig en heeft het effect mooi versterk
