Photographer’s Note

After uploading two pictures from the Duivenvoorde castle park, it is time to show the castle itself. It is one of the oldest castles in Holland and was known already in 1226. The remarkable thing about the castle is that it was never sold but always inherited via the male or female line. For 500 years, from 13 to 18 centuries, it was even inhabited by one family, Van Duivenvoordes, which has taken its name from the castle. From 1965, after the restauration, it is open for the public. The present facade dates from 1631, when the castle was rebuilt in Dutch Renaissance style and now it looks more like a mansion than a "real" castle. In 19C the regular park was remodelled in English landscape style with ponds, one of which serves here to reflect the castle.
