I can see clearly now........
Rotterdam railway station, trains, the red square, the Kremlin, trains, lake Baikal, trains and numerous little train stations, the Gobi desert, Karakhorum, Tsagaan lake, more Mongolia, Beijing, the Forbidden City, the Great Wall.
Oops, sorry, was looking at my itinerary;-))) instead of the screen.
This guy was performing in a Street Performance Festival, and he was playing with those chrystal balls, like he was mocking the gravity. He was dressed as a magician, and he really was. Beside that, I have never seen anyone more flirting with the camera than he did.
OK folks, see you all somewhere in October, and I hope to give you a nice traveloque then. I hope to be fully active then again, at least more than i have been the last two weeks.
Song by Jimmy Cliff
Just unsharp Mask, and a frame.
As a workshop I uploaded the upside down version, just for fun.

Hey, you planned a very interesting journey. I believe that you will love China. Don't forget to go to Shanghai, IMO it is the most impressive city in the world.

Hands again, Rinie! But this time the hands are not the primary subject of your picture. The images in the balls are great and we can clearly see this magician of yours! The dark background makes the balls stand out very well. Just a pity that one of the balls isn't very clear. Enjoy your trip, I'm sure you will have a great time!

???????? Is that really your travel plan?? I'm coming with you. When are we leaving?
This is a very original composition: I love the shallow DOF in it, and the dirty nails of the guy. Great "au revoir" photograph.
MiguelP (14470) 2004-09-01 17:56
let´s say that your picture has intellectual work. You develop a concept and the result is extremely interesting. You´ve catch the blue gosth, Rinie, and I have to congratulate you for this. (By the way, what a jouney!)
mimi (2325) 2004-09-01 18:06
Oooh, Rinie, I am so jealous of your trip (I have terrible travel-envy). I'm not sure how much of it you have planned out already, but if you need any info re Baikal or Mongolia, feel free to e-mail me . . . I was there last summer. You're going to have a great time!
This pic is very cool. I love the inverted reflections.

The man hands... amazing!

naxius (16685) 2004-09-02 4:24
Very nice composition. This close-up is very original and I like the way we can distinguish the crowd trhough these balls.
Well done Rinie!

Very nice one, Rinie. Great close-up of the hand holding the four crystal balls, and wonderful clarity in the reflections. I wish you a great, safe and unforgettable trip.

Finaly your great day has come. I envy you, and I wish you a great trip with your companion D-70.
I believe you will both pleas us in october!
Your image is delightful and very much information. Great! Anyway I was curious about the background wich resulted in this ws from me to you as a farewell gift ;)
(I see now that the balls might be darkened down more like the original to bring out the reflections... I'm a bit fast paced these days)
- SAFE TRAVELS -

Original and funny picture, Rinie, en je gaat heeeeel ver weg ! Wat een reis, zeg, staat ook in mijn lijst, maar die is al zo lang. Heel veel plezier en "neem wat mee", okay ?

I like the reflections and how the spheres seem to float there on his hand. They appear so light and unreal. The great DOF I think is what really gives them this lightness. I think maybe just including the entire bottom sphere would have helped with the full around feel that the reflections give. I also like the contrast between the dirty hands and nails and the very clean spheres. Gives more to that lightness. Nicely spotted and photographed. And have an excellent voyage! Are you taking the Trans-Siberian? Sounds fun! Wish I could go.
spence (65) 2004-09-03 6:14
This is really interesting and unusual Rinie - I like the dark background which makes the balls look even more magical. The reflections are wonderful and the man's hand, so earthy and earthly, is a great contrast.
kikvel (4784) 2004-09-03 22:13
I would "crop" the nails of the guy!
everlasting (14676) 2004-09-04 3:17
Probably too late, but have a safe and wonderful trip together with your trusted friend. Look forward to seeing Mongolia through Rinie´s eyes.
Maybe see you in Beijing.
RGatward (20062) 2004-09-04 4:16
So you're off on the trans-Siberian, lucky you, this is nice goodbye shot.
oochappan (16981) 2004-09-06 7:40
Leuk idee met die glazen bollen en die reflectie. Goeie reis nog !
waskahegan (0) 2004-09-06 21:19
imaginative and creative. I like the presentation and the blurred background.
manny (21833) 2004-09-07 2:25
I hope you're having fun in your trip. Excellent pOv. You have chosen the right DOF too. Amazing how you can play around with the images around you.
eleparc (24063) 2004-09-09 7:58
another splendid shot rinie!!!
kaychambers (1198) 2004-09-13 22:01
This guy seriously needs to wash his hands!
Superb imagery Rinie, the passers-by upside down perspective creates a lot of genuine interest here. A commendable photograph - well done!
Enjoy your trip, Beijing is fab!
danielswalsh (13599) 2004-09-14 3:24
Great Shot Rinie!
You got a good eye- spotting this shot!
I like the depth of field, especially when you tie that in with the fact that they are glass balls, and semi- translucent. Neat
Well done Rinie!
Look forward to seeing more of your shots.
Liora (1857) 2004-10-15 12:39
I almost missed this one! Great capture - almost a study of this guy with all the different angles of him we can see in each ball. Fascinating human scene- well captured!
christina (2040) 2004-10-16 11:53
Very clever shot!!!!The depth of field is very effective here!Have fun on the rest of your journey!
sn00zie (2384) 2004-10-22 4:10
nice picture Rinnie-the crystal balls show us a nice and different view.. upside-down! well captured
cdewet (0) 2004-10-24 15:04
Jy pos nie nuwes nie - wat is fout? "n Paar vuil hande! Die weekaatsing lyk soos iets uit Star Wars! Die donker BG werk goed en die balle is tops!
kaud (1840) 2004-10-31 23:52
That's a good one.
