It is the Noordereiland of Rotterdam, which originated because of the extension of the Rotterdam city and Harbour. In 1879 they began to dig a new harbour on the southern border of the river Maas, the Noordereiland was the result of that. It’s a pleasant part of Rotterdam, which feels like a small village, but with the city near by.
This is only half of the total picture, tomorrow I will post the other half, as it exists of 13 stitched photos, which was a hell of a job to get good, but that afternoon the light was beautiful, and so was the cloud above it, and my new camera was simply begging to be used, 3 days old.
The red bridge is my favorite bridge, the 'Willemsbrug', (built in 1991, and designed by C. Veerling), I cross it everyday, and it leads straight to the island. The views over the water, and to the island are stunning, there's always wind, but very nice and fresh wind.
The green steel bridge (built in 1927 and designed by P. Joosting) is the former railwaybridge, called the 'Hef', and it really is a landmark. I love that bridge, beautiful steel, and really sturdy. The railroad went underground through the city center in 1993, and this bridge is since a industrial monument.
The row of houses that you see, are the older houses. The part where I live, is from after World War II, as that part was bombed by the nazi's in May 1940, which you will see tomorrow
The island, and especially this side is protected cityscape, and recently renovated. The ship lost a container because of th stitching ;-)
The note is continued in the forum message.
Song title by Harry Belafonte.
This pano is built up from about 8 pictures, the one tomorrow out of 5.
rotated almost all, applied USM, that's it. In the small version I cloned some extra sky.
Hope you enjoy my island

This is a great panorama Rinie! Beautiful colors and details enriched by the dramatic sky above. You did a great job stitching the whole thing. Well done!

A very clear shot of "your" Rotterdam !
Nice details, full colours and a very spectacular sky.
I saw the large version too, but that is really great.
Nice work done, Rinie !

Fantastic panorama - looks so impressive in the big shot. It must have taken you ages to do all that stitching! Wonderful architecture, colours and sky. Interesting note too. Very well done, Rinie. (ps - today I went to the craft market and took some portraits. total failure, mainly due to harsh light, but I'll keep trying!)

Rinnie, you did a very neat and beautiful job I think...pictures are very beautiful one by one too I am sure as the stitch came out so good....it really looks exciting, almost natural eye view..thank you lots, for all the effort you spent, both for picture and notes..

The brightness of the colors in opposition with the heavy sky gives a impressive touch to this image.
And the panorama is really excellent, I enjoy in advance for the sequel, Rinie !

Very impressive panorama, Rinie - the large version is really a sight to behold (and has the added treat of even more information than we would hope to see from looking at the small version). The detail is great and really conveys a sensation of "being there"; what I also like is how the container ship is seen at the right of the large version. Great stitching job, looking forward to the next one.

Wow! This is a great panorama, a textbook example of what the feature can do. AND IT IS ONLY HALF OF THE PICTURE... I'm impressed Rinie. The colors and details are right on. What a fine photo this would make. You really need to show this to Rotterdam's tourist bureau. I bet they'd want to use it. How big a file was this in Photoshop?

Ik had nog gezocht naar een passende song tekst voor deze prachtige plaat, goede kleuren, schitterende compositie. Erg goed werk

Very distinctive panorama of your home town. Great shot.
mikee (2354) 2004-08-15 18:35
Wonderful crisp and clear panoramic shot with nice colors. Very Rotterdam - everything is here: the busy waterway, the cargo ship, the bridge, more vessels in the distance, the typical dutch houses lining the waterway. Beautiful composition.
After reading your note I looked closer and realized where the part you mentioned is missing. The building in the corner and the container ship are shorter :) At first I decided that was my fav container because I like how red fades into blue - it sets it appart from the rest of them which are either blue or red. Now I understand how that came about... hehe :)

Great panorama - truly amazing and special - I like it very much - it seems the container ship will have problems with the bridge - but its only a trick of the eye.
Thanks for sharing this fine work - I visit Rotterdam back in 1970 but can't remember this sight :-) Thanks Rinie for sharing.

Very wide panorama. Excellent stitching. I like how you don't show us the entire image so when we open your panoramas we get a surprise. It's an excellent linear shot. The composition makes me want to just keep scrolling right along. The bridge moves my eye. The low buildings and then the boat makes me want to turn back around. The sky here is excellent as well as the colors and sharpness. It's an impressive view and has a watery, harbor, feel to it in its sharpness and clarity. Excellent work here. Is that the raising bridge over the city the same bridge Bert showed us a while back?

I know the island well, I can see part of this view from my office window. But I must say it doesnt look this spectacular. I love the colours against the Rotterdam sky. Maybe I have to bring my camera to Rotterdam, somethign I would never think to do. You have inspired me!!!!!

Wow... Excellent panoramic Rinie.
Its not easy to join images with similar cloudy sky.
Excellent perspective, very pleasant colors and a superior LP.

Wonderful picture Rinie! The view is so sharp, the clarity is amazing, I agree with Norbert, there is a real feeling of "being there". The composition is superb with these proportions water/buildings/sky, it comes out very fine, and that sky is very powerful. A lot of details to look at too. The large version is a must, with an excellent stiching work! Nice, very nice and good PP work too. I just love looking at such scenes, yours is outstanding.
Rockyboy (20598) 2004-08-17 1:16
Oh, I missed this one and this is a wonderful panorama. The stitcing work is very good and the light also very good. You framed the bridge on the left very well too. Perfect, Rinie!

Très beau panorama, pas facile à réaliser avec ce ciel. Encore un magnifique pont dont la Hollande à le secret. Bravo !
