Photographer's Note

The chairs of the meeting and conference hall of the Rotterdam Kunsthal. The Kunsthal (1992) is a museum designed by OMA/Rem Koolhaas. It has 5 exhibition spaces totaling 3300 m2 and has no own art collection –it hosts temporary exhibitions which are often (co-)produced by the KunstHal itself.

Koolhaas' work can be classified as deconstructionist. He frequently uses bold and asymmetric forms, spaces and untreated surfaces, like concrete and corrugated plastics. (check out the workshop with the entrance of the building for this). It confirms his architect's adagio “no time, no money, no detail". So the colourful, harmonious and repetitive arrangements of the chairs, in a certain way is a surprise.

Name of this capture and the Soundtrack to enjoy while lookin' at it is Canto Ostinato. One of my fav pieces of sequential 'contemporary-classical' music. It was written for the piano by Simeon ten Holt.
The version here is a short an adapted (Oscar Alblas) version, performed on marimba and vibraphone.

Wooow, it is fantastic. The smallera and smaller chairs are like from taken from Escher pictures but here with much more intensive colours. The upper part looks like a puzzle. Stunning view.

Dag Bert,

Dit vertegenwoordigd echt uw eigen stijl van foto's maken.
De kleurrijke stoeltjes maken dit beeld mooi en aantrekkelijk.
Maar wat is bijzonder aan dit beeld, is het perspectief dat u hier bewerkstelligd.
Ik zou er niet aandenken om dit te fotograferen, maar zo ziet u maar, dat het niet altijd grote projecten hoeven te zijn voor een mooi beeld.

Hallo Bert,
Een heel mooi grafisch effect en een foto met veel diepte.
Ik vermoed stellig dat de stoelen in deze conferentiezaal niet zomaar lukraak geplaatst worden. Ik trachtte er een lijn in te vinden maar tevergeefs. Dan dacht ik dat twee stoelen met dezelfde kleur niet naast mekaar mochten staan ... maar ook daar zijn uitzonderingen op.

You have the artist's eye and can see opportunities when others would just pass the scene by. You have great depth, colour and pattern, here. The reducing depth of the chairs draws the eyes irresisibly into the shot.

Mooi grafisch effect (wat me ook de bedoeling lijkt van deze stoelen, natuurlijk) - knap gerealiseerd. Ik zou geneigd zijn om hier echt een vierkant te croppen, beneden nog wat wegsnijden. Dan krijg je helemaal zo'n kleurige-puzzelstukjes-effect. Plastiek kan mooi zijn.

Het is allemaal heel simpel zou je op het eerste gezicht zeggen ,maar hoe langer ik kijk,hoe meer ik een sort Escher effect zie Bert,vooral naar boven toe.
Ik vind de combinatie van de kleuren heel leuk,een beetje jaren 50/60 kleuren.
