Photographer’s Note

Dordrecht occupies a central position. That is only a geographical fact. Following the rivers and roads, radians are formed from North to South, from East to West. Dordrecht lies between Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam in the North and Breda, Antwerp and Paris in the South. On an average weekday almost 125,000 cars and lorries travel past the anti-noise barrier along the A16 motorway. One of Europe's busiest rail links follows the same North-South line.

And then there is the other line. The city lies between the sea in the West and the German industrial towns in the East. The roads and rivers flow as arteries past the island. The A15 motorway, which runs on the North-side of Dordrecht, is still the most direct link with the European hinterland. In order to relieve the busy traffic, the N3 road was constructed. This ring road past the southern edge of Dordrecht, forms an efficient link between the A15 and A16 motorways.

The shipping routes are becoming ever-busier too. The three-river meeting point at Dordrecht, with 150,000 ships passing annually, is the busiest water traffic hub in Europe. To this convoy of ships, public transport by water has been added, between several municipalities in the Drechtstedengebied [an area with a number of smaller towns linked to Dordrecht]. A Fast Ferry connects Dordrecht to Rotterdam. For those wishing to avoid the big roads.

And then you go of that road and you come here, in the Biesbosch. O yes I love it. This serie of dark photos is special for people you love good painting. Yes this is a dark photo, and off course I can make it some lighter, but this is so it was on that special moment. And I like it so. I hope you will look to my photo and like it to.
