Photographer's Note
Dear friends,
Ive been away for a while, simply too much other things to do and on my mind.
What we feared and expected for long time happened in the last 2 months, our mum couldnt stay in her own home anymore, alzheimer was just too strong for her and us...
So we had to move her to a special closed place, where she gets more help and attention, fortunately she could stay in the same village where she used to live.
At first it was extremely hard to bring your mother to such a place and leave her there for the last part of her life, but there is simply no other way..
No hard feelings or feeling guilty, there no point, this is the only solution.
My mum is living in a group of 8 people, some of them worse than her, others still ok,the first weeks was hell, for all of us,we were all very depressed, but now things are getting better and she getting used to it,and we know shes in good hands,of the very friendly staff...
Now after years we are visting as children again instead of caretakers and helpers ;=]
So now I try get rest in my head again and pick up the pieces, like here I went to the Kaag lakes on a cold saturdaymorning, seeing the ice floor under blood red skies, finally normal life takes it place again I hope.

Hello Jan
An explosion of colors, probably as strong as that in your head when the decision had to be taken
I know that, my father has been in the same situation
Anyway a gorgeous shot to come back, incredible as if you had forgotten a red filter on your lens
Of course would not be as good without the tree
Have a nice evening and a peaceful future

Hello Jan ,
There are so rare moments like this , when the sky seems to be in fire . You' were at the good place to compose this picture , with the lonely tree , its subtile reflections . and so strinking wonderful colors .
A very personnal note , too . Not a decision easy to take , but the best one for you and her (my wife working in such a place often tells me that)
All the best ...

Hallo Jan,

Vriendelijke groeten,

Hello Jan,
You do not post everyday an entry to TE but everyone is a real "masterpiece" like this one here.
No need to add much "photographic philosophy" it's just selfexplanatory.
TFS and have a nice evening

Simpati saya sekali lagi.
A cracking landscape enhanced by that fabulous fiery sky - the red colour is gorgeous, but almost ominous and unreal!! I think this is rare moment and your are lucky to have witnessed this stunner. A drop dead beautiful for sure and photography of the highest order. Isn't nature magical?
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Jan,
Like fire and ice. Looks like the fire is winning here. Even the snow see to melt away, and that tree almost looks like the burning bush :) I have seen sky like this a couple of times and I thought if I take a photo of it, people would just tell me that I over saturated it. I would almost tone it down just a touch to make it more soothing to eyes, if it were my picture.

Dag dear Jan
What a wonderful to mark your return to us! And you;ve been missed. The pinkish and yellow tones are just marvellous, the bare tree is beautiful even on its own and yet the reflection gives us two for the price of one.
Great shot, I'm glad you're back!

Dag Jan,
Bedankt.
Prettige dag verder,
John.

Hello Jan
What a beautiful image - well composed, great colour tone.
Good note too - I cared for my father until he passed away in Xmas 2011 - it was a painful but rewarding experience at the same time. Everybody is different and deals with things differently but I understand the anguish you must have felt at having your mother cared for. My heart goes out to you.
Take care and TFS

Hi Jan,
the sky and the water seem under fire, I like these splendid red tones on this landscape, and the great visual effect added by the huge tree.
Is a wonderful composition.
You have taken the correct decision about your mother, her disease is terrible and she needs a very special care. I have lived this situation also.
Best regards,

Good morning Jan,
I understand exactly what you felt about your mum, because my own mother is at that age, 90, when she is still fine in her home, but we know it won't last for ever ! We already went through the ordeal with my dad whom we had to move into a nearby home; But he died peacefully 5 days later :-(
You chose an extraodinary picture for your come back. May your mum's end of journey be as bright as that§
Best wishes.
Marie-Louise.
