Photographer’s Note

I took this picture Saturday afternoon, the first tourist are again toward Sluis come, maybe for a day outing.
Sluis got in 1290 city’s right.
It was then a known harbour and trade place.
The locations at the “Zwin”, one of most navigate Sea Rivers; saw to for a flourish period.
But through wars and maven the sail route hit the city in decline.
During the Second World War, Sluis was destroyed largely.
The city has been built up with care and contain yet typical fronts and beautiful by view gate.
Sluis is an attractive place for tourists.
There is a beautiful store offer, has there its good restaurants and also on the territory of culture and nature.
Many Belgian people come here for a day outing, a good cigar or a typical Netherlands have a drink/drop!

Hi John, I like your composition to have the river bank curving from the corner to perspective view in the far distance. The roof along the tree lines also converge to the same point, A well taken picture with clarity and sharpness. Well done.

Hi John,
This POV from the river (canal?) is quite nice and those façades and tower in the back seem very pleasant, indeed. I know very little of this part of Europe (only Brugges and Amsterdam), but I would like to know it better one day. I like the way you used the trees and the margin of the river to lead our eyes to the view of the city. Perfect colours in a clear image, with a beautiful cloudy sky that enhances the image. Very well done!

a bit later during the day than normally you photograph the places, and it is visible - the colours are by far more vivid, more "aggressive"

I continue to be amazed and inspired. Love the way the line of the riverside sweeps round taking the eye with it, creating superb perspective. The trees on the left fit the compo perfectly and again the colours are spot on. Great work and thanks for sharing.

Dag, John. De bocht van de rivier is onze gids naar de huizen aan de oever. Er hangen zeer mooie wolken in de lucht en de bomen op de voorgrond laten ons nog toe een blik te werpen op de voorste gevels. Zeer mooi licht en een Carperformaat dat hier goed past.

Hey there John, really nice one here. The super strong colors of the buildings, especialy the red roofs is what I like here. The river and the roofs have this nice sweeping curve. I see a bit of artifacts in the water, is that right?

Mooie foto van Sluis! De huizen hier langs het water staan er mooi op en de toren steekt er leuk bovenuit. De compositie is ook goed met die bomen aan de linkerkant. Goed werk!

A nice waterside view, John. Good light captured breaking through the clouds and accentuating the architectural elements, everything in vivid color. I think the crop works well and gives more attention to the fine row of old houses. Greetings from Tokyo.

Dag John, het was precies al een tijdje geleden dat we nog iets van Sluis gezien hebben. Toevallig geen terrasje gaan doen? Mooi beeld, goed genomen met die bomen links in het beeld. Ik zie wel een paar onzuiverheden in het beeld; misschien een beetje te scherp of te veel moeten downsizen? Het kan ook aan mijn beeld liggen. Niettemin, het neemt niet weg dat dit weer schitterend gedaan is! Groetjes.

Hi John,

I find this photo very good, with great exposure and sharpness. I specially like the dynamyc range with nice highlights and shadows.

The colors are beautifully saturated and natural. (It may just be my monitor... but the sky seems to have some hint of a CP filter?).

Regarding composition and framing, the cropping you did reinforced the idea of perspective, through a tighter POV.

Hi John, wat een klaarheid en prachtig licht hier. En de diepte en manier waarop de grote curve ons hier in trekt mag er beslist ook zijn! Heel fijn stadsgezicht met een eclatante scherpte en saturatie. Heel erg goed werk.
Een goed weekend toegewenst vanuit een wat mistig Rotterdam bij 12 gr.

I am very busy and not able to visit TE as much as I wanted.
Your photos are always so lovely and this one particularly so.
What I like about the old european city are that they are old and have a personnality that enanoures them to our new world eyes,so used to see our old places,barely 100 year's old.
