Photographer’s Note

The castle was built between 1350 and 1375. In 1534 Renswoude was recognised as a knight royal residence. In 1623 castle Borchwal already expire as Johan van Reede become the owner . This Calvinistic priest finds a church more important than the rebuilding, of his own castle. In the house, on its property where Protestant meetinings kept, the house become much too small. He gets authorisation to build its own church near the castle. This fine cupola church was taken in 1641 in use. Then late Johan van Reede demolishes in 1654 the old castle and build the new, current castle.
The castle park developed itself as from that time slowly in a baroque park, with a straight alley pattern. In 1682 Johan are succeeded by his third zoon, Frederik Adriaan. He was married with Maria Duyst van Voorhout. During the absence of her man she let dig now the Grand still existing canal, compared with the castle alley. Because of this big work, much unemployed persons could helped with the work. But it had been especially intended as a surprise for her man, They are Versailles lgarden overs in that time, so they build there own French garden. On 28 November 1985 there was a big fire on the castle. The fire made a damage of millions of guldens. All the next day, they started with setting up wharf and rebuild the damage. This was reached by the energy of the current owner, baron Taets van Amerongen. In the meantime the castle has been restored entirely. For groups the castle be visit.

When I was there I was waiting on the sun they promes that day. I had to wait 1 hour and then he was there. I took a few shots, this is one of them, I hope you like it.

Amazing clarity and excellent reflections!!The building looks really gorgeous in its yeloowish tone of colours.The blue clear sky has added a nice perspective as well.Can see a long white run in the sky,was it a jet plane?

Hi Jaap,

I do like it. Quite an excellent image of the castle. Nice light and a good compositional choice to include the foreground reeds. The sharpness is remarkable. I notice that many of your images have contrails in the skies. Have you ever considered removing them in post-processing? I respect that everyone has different viewpoints on that.

Hi Jaap. Well worth the wait. The three-quaters view and the reflections are wonderful. The colours look very 'true' and the exposure could not be better.

My only suggestion would be to crop out that aeroplane and vapour trail to the top right as, for some weird reason, it keeps catching my eye! Only a very minor point as this is one of the best shots of its type I've seen here or anywhere else.

Rassure nous, tu vas bien en faire un livre de toutes ces somptueuses photos de chateaux néerlandais...je suis sûr qu'il se vendrait comme des petits pains. Encore un petit chef d'oeuvre à ton actif. Je suis curieux mais j'aimerais bien savoir quel posttraitement tu appliques pour obtenir une telle luminosité dans tes photos aussi bien dans les zones sombres que dans les zones éclairées et celà sans la moindre surexposition, c'est vraiment du grand art!

Hallo Jaap,

U plaatst tegenwoordig met zo een hoog tempo dat ik bijna niet kan volgen, met deze foto vallen we beiden in het zelfde stramien.
Maar het wel zeer mooi door de excellente weerspiegelingen.
Men moet zo'n een moment opname hebben met wind stilte om dit resultaat te bereiken.
Wordt zonder meer een hoogvlieger, nochtans zijn veel leden ergens met verlof.

Very convincing shot of your talent... The light is so fabulous here, it's simply amazing and almost steal the show over the castle... :-P) The gentle ondulation of the water provides an exquisite reflection. I like how you used the foreground grass to frame the scene and fill the empty space. Colours are nice and natural and whatever the PP you've done on this image, the result is very impressive.

This is an outstanding image Jaap and well worth the wait for the sun to appear. The light is stunning with beautiful reflections, and the image is so crisp and sharp without being overdone. The little triangle of foreground grass works very well in the composition.

hoewel dit niet het soort foto is waar ik gek op ben vind ik hem prachtig uitgevoerd. Zeer mooie reflecties en mooi dat je dat beetje geelgroene riet rechtsonderin hebt meegenomen in de compositie. Dat maakt hem minder 'vanzelfsprekend' denk ik.

Het licht rechts op de onderkant van het gebouw is mij net iets te fel, maar de algehele presentatie is subliem. Prachtig licht aan de voorkant met een perfecte lucht er boven. Reflectie is erg mooi met als klein maar belangrijk detail dat stukje gras onderin beeld...mooi.

There are those Dutch skies again - I hope I can capture some when I visit Holland next September. Besides the skies I really like reflections and this one is top notch considering the ripples on the water. Actually, the ripples IMO add another element to the scene and provide visual interest. I do like the little bit of spot lighting the sun is providing on some portions of the castle. Bravo, well done!

Reflection is hier wel het goede woord. Deze foto springt er uit door die prachtige reflectie. Op kwalitatief en compositioneel vlak kan dit volgens mij niet beter. Echt prachtig werk dat je de laatste tijd levert.
