Photographer’s Note

The castle was built between 1350 and 1375. In 1534 Renswoude was recognised as a knight royal residence. In 1623 castle Borchwal already expire as Johan van Reede become the owner . This Calvinistic priest finds a church more important than the rebuilding, of his own castle. In the house, on its property where Protestant meetinings kept, the house become much too small. He gets authorisation to build its own church near the castle. This fine cupola church was taken in 1641 in use. Then late Johan van Reede demolishes in 1654 the old castle and build the new, current castle.
The castle park developed itself as from that time slowly in a baroque park, with a straight alley pattern. In 1682 Johan are succeeded by his third zoon, Frederik Adriaan. He was married with Maria Duyst van Voorhout. During the absence of her man she let dig now the Grand still existing canal, compared with the castle alley. Because of this big work, much unemployed persons could helped with the work. But it had been especially intended as a surprise for her man, They are Versailles lgarden overs in that time, so they build there own French garden. On 28 November 1985 there was a big fire on the castle. The fire made a damage of millions of guldens. All the next day, they started with setting up wharf and rebuild the damage. This was reached by the energy of the current owner, baron Taets van Amerongen. In the meantime the castle has been restored entirely. For groups the castle be visit.

the swan are swimming very quick to me and I used a speed serie, wauw what a speed has this camera, fantastic. I hope you like the shot too.

Hello Jaap,

This is a view not common in North America. We do have palaces and castles but not as many as in Europe. Interesting place with the swans adorning the foreground. The palace in the background is a good focal point. Nice work Jaap :-)

A perfect perspective to show us this magnificent castle. What a quietful countryside! The autumn tones are well suited for this kind of picture where the white facade of the castle balances the swans.

Avery nice composition with the swans and nice autumn colours! I do like the story how the old castle was demolished and a new one was built. Think they didn't have monumental protection or unesco locations in that time ;-). Nice work here!

Ik denk dat je het huis iets hebt opgelicht maar dat komt de foto alleen maar ten goede. Een heel mooie compositie met die bomenrij aan beide kanten die wijken om doorgaang naar het huis te laten. Mooi belicht op de linker en rechterkant zonder dat het daar dichtloopt. Natuurlijk doen die zwanen perfect mee voor het creeren van diepte in de foto...prima werk.

(if it exists...;))) Again, great view of a typical Dutch "castle", light is wonderful and very good to have these swans swimming towards you. I know how fast is the series at 40D, I used it once, it is a great camera...

Dag Jaap,

Ik had hem deze morgen reeds bewonderd en het zeer mooi met de zwamen in de vijver, ik zie enkele jonge zwamen van dit jaar erbij, goede broedplaats geweest.
Het kasteel heeft u mooi geplaatst tussen de bomen wat voor een mooi tunnel effect zorgt en alles goede naar de diepte leidt. Bij stil weer en zonder zwanen zou u een prachtige weerspiegeling gehad hebben.
Maar op deze manier is het ook zeer mooi en anders dan gewoonlijk.

The parade of the swans! The scene would be very good even without the swans, because of the beautiful castle and its reflection, framed by the trees on each side, but when you add in the swans it makes it very special. Excellent work!

I like the light and the quality of the colors obtained in this composition. The landscape that you have caught in this setting is very beautiful, and the castle in BG is very elegant, but what more attracts me of this scene is the beauty and majesty of the swans swimming in FG, and drawing a few nice wavinesses in the water.

Hello Dear Jaap,

There is an expression in English, "Getting all your ducks in a rows." You have achieved this beautifully in this very beautiful photograph, framing the Rhenswoude Castle in the small channel an, and between the trees. The colors are splendid, The rich browns are complemented by the cerulean blue of the sky. This is the finest photo I've seen today, or indeed this week.

c'est ce qu'on peut appeler une gestion parfaite de l'exposition, un cadrage toujours adéquat du photographe qui a l'oeil.
On dirait que tu as utilisé un filtre gris graduel, j'aime cette légère sous-exposition.

Les cygnes font un excellent premier plan dans ce paysage d'une grande beauté. Ce n'est pas facile de photographier tant de cygnes pour qu'ils soient tous dans une bonne position.
