Photographer's Note

In the Netherlands we have two types of dykes, Summerdykes and Winterdykes. The reason is that during winter the level of the rivers gets much higher then in summer. The summerdykes protect the agricltural land which is used during the summerseason but might (and mostly will) flood during winter.

You won't find any houses in the area which could flood during wintertime but you might find other interesting things, like this boat, half filled with rainwater and still pretty unreachable due to the high waterlevels and the muddy ground.

This photo was taken in the foreland of the Lek river not too far from Utrecht (about 15km), just in front of the winterdyke which you see in the background. I did not get wet feet taking this photo.
