Photographer’s Note

The moated castle De Haar, the largest in the Netherlands, is an enourmous brick construction originating in 14-15C. It was burnt by Louis XIV's troops between 1672 and 1673, and then rebuilt in 1892 for the castle owner, Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt, by PJH Cuypers, the architect of the Rijksmuseum and the Central Station in Amsterdam, according to the original plans and drawings. The main building, with pepper-pot roof towers, is surrounded by wide moats and linked to a large entrance fort by a covered bridge. The castle church, seen here on the right, has also been restored in the end of 19C.

HDR of three handheld bracketed exposures (0, +2, -2 full stops, at f/5.6 and ISO 400 this is 1/250, 1/60 and 1/1000 sec).
