Photographer’s Note
THE KAISER
Prince Wilhelm of Prussia was born on 27 January 1859 as the oldest son of the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich and the English Princess Royal. Through his grandmother Queen Victoria he is related to most of the reigning houses in Europe. In 1881 he marries Auguste-Victoria von Schleswig Holstein.
In 1888 the Germans bury both his grandfather Wilhelm I and, after a reign of only ninety-nine days, his father Friedrich III. Then Wilhelm ascents the royal Prussian and imperial German throne at the age of twenty-nine. He replaces experience advisers by a staff of his own liking and his peculiar behaviour is critisized in both Germany and abroad.
After the fatal attack on Archduke Franz-Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary in 1914 Wilhelm considers it his duty to support his ally against Serbia. The Balkan state is helped by Russia that in its turn has a bond with France. To attack France efficiently the Germans invade Belgium. Since Great-Britain has guaranteed the neutrality of the Belgians, the English are also lured into the fray. And when moreover smaller European states choose sides, a conflict at an until then unknown scale is a fact. For three years the war remains undecided but in 1917 the United States join in and this changes the German prospects.
Wilhelm is personally blamed for the defeat. His Imperial Navy revolts while he is in Belgium and the revolt spreads to Berlin. As the allies consider the Kaiser a war criminal he is forced to flee from his Belgian headquarters to the Netherlands, the country that has remained neutral. He abdicates in November 1918.
Wilhelm has never returned to Germany. In accordance with his will, his bodily remains are deposited in a mausoleum on the estate.
yes this was something else not a normal shot of mine but even I was in that last house and I was realy impressed. I hope you like the shot is was cropped. In my WS I made another version of the shot.

Bonsoir Jaap,
Nicely, well seen and captured local scenery of this castle place and moment. Is a different one of you with a vertical format and enquadrement but I like it very much So well composed, with a fine perspective and your touch for composition. Good light handling, soft colors and fine sharpeness. You caught the moment atmosphere so well and this is a clear quality picture.
Very well seen and composed. Congratulations my friend.

Hoi Jaap,

Hi Jaap, You have well composed this picture to show the faded past of the emperor with the winter view of the color faded house. Good depth and nice to use the roadway and the side house lead to the courtyard of the house. Thanks for the educational notes.

Dag Jaap,

Groeten,
John.

A well balanced composition, Jaap, where the alignment of elements, starting with the lantern in the foreground all the way back to the palace, builds a fine perspective. Nice how the sunlight enhances the seasonal colors. I think you made the right choice - the WS is also good but for me the lighter version without the tree at the left works better.

Hi Jaap
Great note! Well it's not most good than your photo but it's great and very informative. I like how you place the lamp and the trees in a straight. I think that your photo is divided in two parts: the tress and the lamp are the borders and the palace on the left hand is the other side! :)
Very smart photo. Well done.

Bonsoir Jaap,

Good morning Jaap,
The house is wellpositioned under the tree, personally I do not like the lantern, it disturbs a bit.
Thanks for your documentary note.

Knut.

Dag Jaap,
This one is quite an unusual variation from you, but I like its composition with its good perspective and having this nice street lamp to open the view towards the castle.
Have a nice day,

Hi Jaap. Both shots are very good but I find myself preferring the workshop because the sidewalk acts as a better conduit to take our eyes to the focal point. The visual flow just seems smoother in the WS. But they are similar other than that. Nice catch Jaap.

Bonsoir Jaap

Bien vu.
Daniel.

Hi Jaap,
An interesting shot taken from a superb POV. The warm lighting makes one think that winter has departed! I like the strewn leaves and the shadow effects. The eye follows the road into the frame to appreciate the grand building in the distance. The lamp post provides balance. Your note is interesting. I was aware Wilhelm did not return alive to Germany, but was unaware that his remains were still in the Netherlands. Very fine work, Jaap.

Hi Jaap
Groetjes
Henk
