So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.

Marken, last friday evening, 9.56 PM. on the way back home.
Doggie and I just got to the bus stop, I had less than 30 seconds to uncap my camera and take this picture. Bus 111 was approaching, missing it means waiting another 30 minutes for the next one. So, not a lot of time to think, but this much I figured out : no way to get the big tree in full sight from this angle. A whiff to the right and I'd be screwing light and perspective, catch a bunch of messy stuff in bottom right, and end up most likely cutting into the first dark tree on the left. As usual : it would be great to have the cake AND the cream all the time, but it only happens once every so often.
Well, I don't complain. It was a warm, beautiful sunset, bathing in almost surreal light, the smell of hay in the air... It made me think of Pink Floyd and Wish You Were Here...

Now, Wish You Were Here is the title track on the omonimous Pink Floyd's 1975 album. The song's lyrics encompass writer Roger Waters' feelings of alienation from other people. Like most of the album, it refers to former Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett and his breakdown. The main riff came to David Gilmour while playing his acoustic guitar in Abbey Road Studios. Gilmour then demonstrated the riff to Waters, who was impressed. They collaborated to complete the song, as Waters had already written some lyrics. It turned out to be one of the greatest songs of all time.

Hi Fulvio,

at this time you came with this pop art. I don't know what you did but the fact is there is an attractive light and color treatment. The strong blue of the sky contrasts beautifully with the warm light coming from behind you. That tree at the right is the eye catcher in the image. It pops up, making the other two ones as secondary actors. Superb composition. I like this very much!

Hi Fulvio.

Wonderful, if slightly over-saturated, view of this tranquil corner of the Netherlands. The blue sky acts a great foil for the green leaves and orange/brown tiles of the roof. It might benefit from a slight increase in exposure (1/3 to 1/2 stop) to bring out any highlight lost in the shadows.

Great song, too. I'm a fan and have been lucky enough to see them a couple of times.

Prachtig, niet alleen de foto maar natuurlijk de note als geheel. WYWH is mijn favoriete album en ook al vind ik Shine On.....een veel beter nummer, het is wel het concept als geheel wat mij heel diep raakt. Zelfs na al die jaren krijg ik nog kippevel van die nummers, van Shine On zelfs zeer emotionle verschijnselen ;-)

Die blue sky he, die doet het helemaal hier. Flink aangezet, maar wel op een mooie manier. Ik zie het werk wat je had, vooral in het blauw wat heel erg steriel is, maar het contrast is ozo mooi. Dat reepje licht tegen het gras aan, de shaduw van de bomen, het huis met rode daken...prachtig..!!!

De scherpte, die had nog ietsie pietise meer punch mogen krijgen, maar is slecht een detail...

Fulvio, nice one, this one with real dark shadows and light, huge dynamic range, and of course you have handled it well as usual. Nice one, don't give one much to critique do you...

Hi, Fulvio -

This just proves, once again, that timing is everything!

It is just slightly over-saturated; I think maybe a little curves work on the green channel might tone down the foreground tree. On the other hand, you might lose the excellent greens in the background if you did that. And it is a great light capture overall.

Hello Fulvio,glad that you managed to catch this one!The light is beautiful.I like the two trees in silhouette contrasting with the fg tree still in sunlight.The fg shadow and the light in the bg add real depth.
And yes, yet another of my favourite Pink Floyd tracks.Thanks for the notes.

complimenti davvero, il gioco delle luci e delle ombre e' gestito in maniera fantastica, mi piace molto l'albero in primo piano e gli altri in ombra per riprendere la luce sulla casa, ottima anche la saturazione dei colori con un cielo fantastico .

Hi Fulvio,
Wat een prachtig licht! Mooie lange schaduwen en een prettige, warme gloed over de huizen op de achtergrond. Dat steekt ook mooi af tegen de diepblauwe hemel. Leuk om te zien hoe de rechterboom wordt belicht, terwijl de andere twee in de schaduw blijven. Heel mooi fotowerk, zeker gezien de tijdsdruk. :-)

Hey Fulvio,
Mooie diepe kleuren, prachtig werk.
Als je naar Jisp fietst (eerst beter weer) en je doet dat ergens in de komende twee weken kun je even doorrijden naar Wormer voor een koffie of anders. Ik zit twee weken op het enorme huis met kilometers uitzicht en tuin van vrienden aldaar (Dorpstraat 349, schuinachter de kerk)

Wonderful evening light and beautiful colours especially in the sky. I wonder if you could select the bottom part up to the horizon and adjust the levels a tad just to brighten it up somewhat? Great shot for a rush job.

Wanneer u dit avondbeeld kan strikken, wel dit mag u dit nooit laten, want het zou zonde zijn met dit genuanseerde kleuren palet.
Hier kan de schilder zich mooi uitleven om een samenstelling te realiseren dat men niet ierdezredag kan vinden.
Zeker hoe u speelt met licht in de boom, samen met de rode daken, het is mooi gedaan zonder meer. Bedankt.

I don't believe my eyes - a blue hour (almost) photo from you? :) love it, especially how the golden light brings out the tree in the foregroud, as if in spotlight. the long shadows across the road is another great thing, I like a lot how they seem to point towards that illuminated tree. the sky is beyond the comment, love the smooth blue there. nice one :)

Great picture and I believe that I may have thought of Pink Floyd just like you if I'd happened upon this scene myself.

This image is very Pink Floydesque... except, of course, you need a cow or flying pig in the frame. LOL!!!

Pink Floyd is one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Chances are good that 100+ years from now when the music from our era is cataloged and remembered that Pink Floyd will figure prominently in it.

"Wish You Were Here" is one of their greatest albums and one of their best songs. It is also one of my personal favorites.

I believe that album was created as Pink Floyd's rant against the record industry and how it manipulates musicians for their own greedy profit. "Enter the Machine" is an incredible metaphor for that.

Imho, Rodger Waters is one of the greatest warped, lyrical geniuses of our time.

perfect color-set. very pink-floydish indeed. don't pay attention to those "too over-saturated" shouters ;)) saturation is very much alright here. i just wish: the light on the tree (just the tree) was stronger because, i think, i know exactly what kind of light it is. fleeing, very hard to catch, but very punchy... the last rays of the day.

Hello Fluvio! This photo brings me back to vacation mood ... it has a light that calls me outside rather than sitting inside ... or even work! Just wonderful.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I wish you a wonderful time with great adventures but also relaxing moments, good foods, cool beers, stary nights and a little time for picture taking. It actually takes a lot of time and I had not enough in my view but driving through the wild west needs also a lot of hours in the car rather than out of the car but it is not only about picture taking but also about experiences and meeting people. I hope you will be able to meet Stan and his wife, they are a great couple.

Now I am left alone :) Summer is peaking. Europe is going on a vaction and here I stand alone at TE waiting that everybody returns. I know, TE is a lot of fun but it uses a lot of time too sitting in front of the pc so it is great to have a little break sometimes, to recover :) Enjoy to the max ... hugs too ... Barbara.
