The Dewaruci, a photo from Noord-Holland, South

Photographer's Note

Here is the Dewaruci on its way on the Noordzeekanaal (North Sea canal) from IJmuiden to Amsterdam on the first day of Sail Amsterdam 2005. I was here together with Lars (Tue) and Rob (Alvar Aalto).

It is an Indonesian ship (and it has an huge Indonesian flag, as you can see).

Build: in 1953
Length: 63 m
Wide: 10,3 m
Sail surface: 1100 m2

It is not the biggest or oldest ship of Sail 2005, but I liked the big colourful flag. Next to the ship you can see a yellow train, which they put on a ship.

Wat een feest met al die vlaggetjes en al de scheepjes rondom dit grote ship, mooi met de toeschouwers in de marge, een prachtige uitvaart.

Härlig trängsel. Vilken enorm flagga. Först tror man den ligger i förgrunden, men så är det ju inte.

It looks such a fun day. You have captured all kinds of activity. I can't figure out where the red and white flag is coming from; it seems out of proportion to the rest of the shot.
I have some more ships to post from the Tacoma Tall Ships in the next few days

Very nice view where we can well see how busy waters are around A'dam these days, we can feel here as well the festive atmosphere, enjoy the beautiful weather at that moment and yes, the flag isindeed huge ;-)

It was very hard to take good picture during the sail2005... but it was a wonderful and amazing event! Never seen so much boats!
I see that you took also this opportunity to meet some TE members... Great moment, I guess!
About the picture, I remember well of Dewaruci and I took also it in picture but just some details as it was accosted... Maybe I will see it again as I will be in Indonesia the 3 last week of september...

Hey Stef, thats one large flag! Its bigger than most of the other boats around!

Very goos shot with a lot going on, this coudl almost be a Wheres Wally shot like one of Lars's the other day.

Bonjour Stef,
Ce bateau à fière allure et il le sait, les autres bateaux font figure de lilliputiens ! Il faut reconnaître qu'il est beau et que voir un superbe trois-mâts n'est pas courant.
Vous étiez fort bien placé pour saisir ce moment important.
Très bon cadrage malgré les difficultés que j'imagine (foule).
Belle et intéressante réalisation.

This is a good impression of what can be seen at Sail. Well composed and exposed. Maybe the scene is a bit 'busy', but I guess there was nothing you could do about it. Well done & TFS!

A colourfu, well composed scene rendered with good clarity. I like how the flag balances the scene. Although busy, the scene has good points of interest. The grassy foreground with the people standing slices neatly into the frame and contrasts well with the balance of the scene. Well captured, Stef.

Hi Stef, I like this colorful picture. You picture has shown that it is indeed a special event to view the tall ships as so many small boats and so many people around. A well captured picture with clarity. I like the view of the flag waving in the wind. Well done.
