Good old Haarlem, a photo from Noord-Holland, South

Photographer's Note

Now and than I jump on my bike for a 20 minute drive to Haarlem,13 km up Northfrom my hometown.
Not so far from big brother,Amsterdam,but with far less tourists and a nice quiet,descent atmosphere.
Genteel,with endless little streets to wander around
you can still enjoy the remains of a huge history,going back to the pre and golden age years of Frans Hals....and many other Dutch writers and painters,all inpired by this pleasant town.
Almost wherever you go,the sky is always dominated by the great St. Bavo church,build between 1370 and 1520..
Last but not least,this is only another 15 minutes from the sea.

Fantastic old Dutch architecture. Similar to Amsterdam, but it seems with more light. You are lucky to have such views not far from your home.

I remember having gone down that street towards the center, I also remember that I bought some shoes that I still use. Very good pov and good framing, sharpness, depth, good light and color. Dit type plaatjes doen het altijd zeer goed.
Mooie gevels en de kerk er tussen geeft werkelijk een mooi dorps gevoel.

Hallo Jan,

Geheel nieuwsgierig heb ik de reacties van
de andere mensen gelezen en als je het mij
vraagt hebben ze nog steeds geen idee van
hoe, of wat Haarlem is. Jammer wat
historisch gezien doet die het nauwelijks
onder van Amsterdam (denk alleen maar aan
een van de laatste bolwerken tegen de
Spanjaarden), of aan de ruim tweehonderd
bierbrouwerijen die ze rijk waren (gezonder
dan het water uit de grachten). En in
het heden is het de stad met de meest
verschillende soorten winkel in Nederland
(Kleine Houtstraat is vaak leuker dan de
Grote Houtstraat).

Foto is tijdloos, heeft mooie warme kleuren,
is goed verdeelde en belicht en de mooie
lucht maakt het geheel compleet.

Onze dochter is vorige week donderdag een
half jaar geworden. Ze begint alles prachtig
te vinden. Ons hondje is haar kleine held.
Wel zit ze in een periode dat elk moment
haar eerste tandje komt, zielig om te zien
dat ze daar af en toe last van heeft, maarja
dat hoort er ook bij.

the netherlands is a country thats for sure on my top list of countries to visit.

Indeed a pleasant looking old town by the canal for it looks less hectic but lots to see there that hold our focus on, in particular the wonderful facades of the famous Dutch architecture, they are really awesome.The tight crop allow us to fully focus on the central interest, well detailed in delicious colors, great lighting and fine contrast to blue sky. Great place to kill the time for sure Pak, Fine shot. Congrats.

Eenvoudig, maar heel efficiënt. De foto laat het stadszicht voor zich spreken, onder die mooie lucht. Haarlem staat al een tijdje bovenaan ons wenslijstje voor een volgend lang weekendje in Nederland, deze foto bevestigt dat voor ons.

Verder heb je overschot van gelijk in de recente discussie. It's only a hobby...en jammer dat mensen zich zo laten meeslepen. Mooie foto's verdienen dat trouwens niet, al dat gedoe...doch dit terzijde.

An idyllic town, situated in the river. The contrast has been beautifully judged here, with a light that's truly magical. I also like the white frame which sets this off beautifully.
